Job Description
Responsible for establishing, monitoring, and implementing the GIS Strategy and Landbase Strategy across Eversource Gas (ESG). Accountable for the utilization of purchased technologies to their full capability to meet operational needs of the ESG. This individual must project manage technology upgrades: defining the scope of the project, the resource needs and managing to the set budget. In addition to the strategic focus of the position, the Manager will manage the GIS Supervisors to plan, assign, and review the work of GIS Technicians working on GIS projects. The Manager is responsible to provide GIS technical support and develop solutions for all application problems. The Manager is also responsible to assess and improve quality and accessibility of all key records across ESG (gate stations, regulators, corrosion records, etc).

Essential Functions:

  • Prepares GIS status reports.
  • Monitors Activity Report accuracy and completeness and follows-up on any variances.
  • Manages the department by establishing and monitoring area goals, policies, plans, programs, performance objectives and budget. Analyzes and recommends resource levels to plan, develop and implement programs and policies. Establishes operating and financial objectives and aligns with department goals. Manages area financial resources.
  • Supports timeliness and accuracy of regulatory reporting.
  • Ensures quality and timely updates to GIS.
  • Responsible for the development and implementation of GIS systems to meet and improve operational requirements.
  • Implements best practices to achieve efficient and effective GIS and records strategy and activities.
  • Consolidates and standardizes GIS platforms.
  • Accountable for the accuracy of GIS and distribution mapping information.
  • Ensures that safe work practices are followed and the environment is fully protected in accordance with Company policy and regulations.
  • Implements GIS-related projects.
  • Assesses and improves quality and accessibility of all key records across ESG (gate stations, regulators, corrosion records, etc)
  • Provides assistance to operating department activities during system emergencies and restoration efforts.
  • Evaluates and implements technology improvements that address changing records management requirements.
  • Participates in or leads committees or meetings focused on compliance, both internally and externally, such as for the Northeast Gas Association and the American Gas Association.
  • Oversees the management and development of area staff. Assesses the need for, and oversees implementation of, programs to ensure employees possess technical, interpersonal and organizational skills required to support operating plans. Supervises, selects, coaches and develops area staff.
  • Responsible for performing QA/QC on mapping received from the field and on GIS Technician updates.
  • Provide technical expertise in the fields of compilation, mapping techniques, and data acquisition.
  • Manages approximately 20 employees across Connecticut and Massachusetts.
  • Establishes strategic objectives working with various business units to identify ESG needs that can be met through the utilization of the GIS infrastructure. Performs gap analysis. Develops and implements corrective actions to fill gaps.
  • Communicates in writing and verbally in a clear, effective and timely manner.
  • Identifies best practices records management requirements.
  • Prepares technical specifications and evaluates proposals relative to third party mapping requirements.

  • Knowledge of GIS systems and technology
  • Requires well-rounded understanding of the technologies, principles, and processes used in the GIS/Mapping organization.
  • Understands symbols and terminology used in engineering drawings.
  • Must demonstrate excellent oral and written communications skills.
  • Participates in and facilitates team effectiveness.
  • Requires strong leadership skills, displays initiative, holds other accountable, accepts responsibility and makes sound decisions.

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in GIS, surveying, or cartography or equivalent years of experience in GIS.


Experience
:

Minimum of ten (10) years gas distribution, engineering, GIS or technical experience.

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Eversource offers a competitive total rewards program. The annual salary range for this position is $135,900.00 to $151,000.00, plus incentive. Salary is commensurate with your experience. Check out the career site for an overview of benefits.

Working Conditions:

  • Work is performed primarily in an office environment which requires sitting, standing, walking and climbing stairs are involved. Job can require traveling to operating districts and companies within and outside the state.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, talk, and hear. The employee is occasionally required to walk; use hands and fingers to operate, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and or move up to 15 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus.
  • Must be available to work emergency restoration assignment as required.
  • Must be available to travel between MA/CT/NH as necessary.
  • This position is categorized as safety-sensitive for the purpose of drug testing. Successful applicants shall be subject to a pre-assignment drug test if the individual is currently in a non-safety sensitive position. As an employee in this position the individual shall be subject to random drug testing. A positive drug test will result in disciplinary action.
  • Occasionally exposed to explosive gas, high-noise levels, and traffic and construction site hazards. This is a safety sensitive position requiring random drug testing. Federal operator qualifications rules apply.
