Gis Manager Jobs

The GIS Manager oversees and leverages GIS resources to create maps, reports, and databases for Harris County Precinct 4. They collect and handle data, provide mapping services, perform technical research and analysis, and coordinate activities across Divisions. The GIS Manager is both subject matter expert and a cross-functional leader.

In the GIS Manager role, you will collaborate with other members of the GIS team on the scope and schedule of projects. You will be expected to maintain extensive knowledge in Environment Rating Scales Institute (ERSI) solutions and successfully analyze data and present data visualizations. Success in this role will be demonstrated by providing support and expertise in the development of the Precinct’s GIS capabilities to meet strategic objectives. The candidate will be expected to develop a GIS database that can be accessed by other Precinct staff for analysis, while also creating interactive web tools to support non-technical staff members across Precinct Divisions.

The position reports to the Director of Planning and Development at Harris County Precinct 4 in the Infrastructure Division and is expected to support staff from other Divisions such as Policy and Innovation, Communications, Community Engagement & Government Affairs, and other related staff.

• Bachelor’s degree in GIS Analysis, Environmental Science, Geography, or related field
• 5+ years of experience with ArcGIS

• Solid cartographic skills
• Solutions or current equivalent.
• Spatial and relational data analysis, data management, analytical modeling, statistics and remote
• Spatial/tabular data collection, organization, management, and processing.
• Application design, web authoring, and GIS scripting.
• Planning concepts, language, and regulations.
• Cartographic production/digital mapping.
• Geographic data sources available through local, county, state, or federal agencies.
• Sensing.
• Microsoft Office software for document, spreadsheet, database, and presentation preparation.
• Project management principles and practices.
• Advanced database management and custom application development.
• Research methods and practices.
• ArcGIS Desktop, Python, Model Builder, ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS Online, other online mapping
