Localization Content Editor, Australia (Freelance)

IXL Learning, a leading edtech company with products used by 14 million students worldwide, is seeking a motivated, detail-oriented Localization Editor with demonstrated expertise in Australian English language conventions and culture. In this role, you will work closely with curriculum designers and content writers to ensure our language arts, math, and science items are linguistically correct, grade appropriate, and culturally suitable for the Australian edition of our product.
This is a remote 1099 consulting role for 6 months with possible extension. It is open to candidates in the US or Canada.
What You'll Be Doing

• Ensure overall quality and consistency of language arts, math, and science content for Australia
• Spelling, punctuation, grammar, and terminology conventions of Australian English
• Copyedit to improve formatting and style
• Cultural relevance for Australian students (i.e., avoiding US-centrism)
• Grade-level appropriateness
• Adherence to IXL style guide specifications
• Review IXL content and suggest necessary adaptations for our Australian edition. Considerations will include:
• Answer IXL queries pertaining to Australian English language and cultural customs

What We're Looking For

• Understanding of K–12 students’ reading and knowledge levels
• Proficiency in Google Docs and Google Sheets
• Strong communication skills
• Impeccable knowledge of Australian English grammar and mechanics
• BA/BS degree and minimum of 3 years' experience in an editing role
• Familiarity working with style manuals and guides (e.g., The Chicago Manual of Style)
• Ability to meet deadlines and be efficient and organized while managing a queue of assignments
• Superior writing and editing skills, with exceptional attention to detail
