Content Editor - Social Studies

LearningMate helps K-12 organizations create digital content that is personalized, accessible, and engaging. We seek a highly qualified content editor to work with our team over the next 12-14 months. We are conducting a comprehensive curriculum review of a new K-12 academic program for a US-based charter school. The curriculum comprises courses in all subject areas, including assessments and associated materials.

Responsibilities:

As a content editor for K-5 Social Studies courses, you will apply your subject matter expertise to perform a comprehensive review of instructional content, assessments, and associated materials. You will ensure that content meets expectations for quality, accuracy, and adherence to editorial and writing style guidelines.

You will work with an editorial team including the Project Manager, Curriculum Director, content editors, copy editors, quality assurance specialists, and learning design strategists to ensure deliverables are submitted on time and meet expectations by:

• Studying and becoming proficient in client requirements, guidelines, and training materials
• Recording content review status using specified platforms and tools
• Addressing internal and client feedback during review cycles

You will provide editorial services by:

• Editing for content quality, accuracy, and adherence to guidelines
• Adhering to guidelines and checklists during the curriculum review process
• Providing developmental editing as needed to ensure the content meets acceptable quality standards and guidelines
• Making two rounds of review plus a final pass to clear comments if necessary
• Participating in individual and team meetings to share and discuss progress, feedback, updates, best practices, and solutions

Qualifications:

• Five or more years of K-5 classroom teaching experience
• Solid copyediting and proofreading experience
• Bachelor’s or Master's degree in K-12 education, or related field
• Experience working with virtual teams or offshore teams a plus
• Willingness and ability to work flexible hours with minimal supervision
• 10 or more years of experience developing standard-aligned social studies instructional content and assessments in a K-5 academic or publishing environment

Desired Skills:

• Excellent verbal and written English communication skills
• Detail-oriented and adept at prioritizing tasks
• Proficient in MS Office, Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Slides), project management tools, and online meeting tools (i.e., Zoom and Google Meet)
• Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and staff to create a high-quality, results-driven, team-oriented environment
• Strong problem-solving skills and flexibility in approaching problems
• Ability to handle multiple priorities with demanding timeframes
• Strong organizational and time management skills

Preferred Experience:

• Experience working in a content management system
• Experience implementing quality assurance protocols
• Experience in designing developmentally appropriate instruction
• Experience applying writing and style guidelines for editorial review or curriculum writing projects
• Experience providing constructive feedback
• Experience in coaching, mentoring and supporting subject matter experts (writers) during curriculum design and development projects
