ABOUT THE POSITION
The Columbia Sportswear Legal Department protects company interests across the globe, advancing company strategy through high quality advice, and support to all brands and regions. Our aim is to safeguard our most valuable assets and assist in the creation of a competitive industry advantage while managing risk and ensuring compliance with global laws and regulations.
The Legal Operations Coordinator will be responsible for driving and supporting the Legal Department’s operational excellence. In this role you will be responsible for coordination of the legal department budget, coordination of outside counsel engagements and billing, establishing, and enhancing templates, forms, and policies. In this role you will also helps attorneys and paralegals make the best use of their time by assisting with project management, optimizing processes, providing administrative support, and engaging and connecting employees with the Legal Department. This position will report to the Deputy General Counsel within the Legal Department, is based in Portland, Oregon and is not supervisory in nature.
HOW YOU’LL MAKE A DIFFERENCE
  • Provide the General Counsel and Deputy General Counsel with budget analysis and management recommendations and incorporate feedback
  • Work directly with the U.S. legal team (in particular, with the General Counsel and Deputy General Counsel), and Finance Department to prepare and manage the legal budget and analyze spend monthly
  • Manage legal vendor engagements, including outside counsel, consulting providers and technology providers; manage tech solutions for Legal Department to enhance current process and create more efficient processes (including Legal Tracker, ZDiscovery, and DocuSign).
  • Manage monthly reconciliation and report requests, and quarterly budget estimate updates, and devise and deliver corresponding spend metrics
  • Oversee global legal billing, including rate approvals, invoice review and payment; resolve process issues
  • Capture legal matter costs worldwide to aid active spend management and continue to monitor operational costs for improved budget forecasting accuracy
YOU ARE
  • Known for strong problem-solving skills and independent judgment
  • Motivated by learning new things and taking on a broad scope of accountabilities in a dynamic and evolving work environment
  • Someone with a demonstrated record of strong interpersonal skills and the ability to establish and maintain excellent working relationship with all internal contacts and co-workers
  • Strong with oral and written communication skills including familiarity with common legal terminology
  • Someone with a history of excellent organizational skills, the ability to prioritize many tasks, and complete tasks with accuracy and efficiency
  • Flexible regarding work hours and responsibilities
YOU HAVE
  • 5+ years of experience working in advanced administrative support or legal operations positions. Juris Doctor, a paralegal certification, bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, economics, business, or related area of study, or equivalent professional experience are a plus
  • Legal knowledge or experience in a legal environment (firm or in-house) and demonstrated financial acumen required.
  • Previous experience with reporting tools and/or Excel to help build reports and analyze results

** Position requires flexibility to work outside of normal hours to meet deadlines. Hours may exceed 8 hours/day or 40 hours/week during peak activity periods
