About the role:

Boston Scientific is seeking a Legal Counsel to join its Global Regulatory Legal team to support continued growth of its Research Contracts Center of Excellence, with a focus on pre-clinical and clinical research, as well as specified corporate-level, cross-divisional, cross-functional initiatives and working groups.


Your responsibilities include:

  • Work collaboratively with internal clients and functional partners (e.g., Global Clincial Operations, Corporate Quality, Corporate Regulatory)
  • Represent and support internal clients in contract negotiations with external parties
  • Counsel and advise internal clients on legal issues and assessment of risk
  • Identify opportunities and assist with the development and maintentance of processes and procedures to maintain compliance with BSC policies and applicable laws, regulations and guidelines
  • Work collaboratively with counsel and legal professional staff across the global Legal & Compliance Department to ensure agreements are negotiated in compliance with BSC policies and procedures and applicable laws
  • Partner with internal clients to ensure agreements are consistent with corporate policies, procedures and processes, and the desired business arrangement
  • Draft and negotiate a wide range of complex pre-clinical and clinical research related agreements and documents (e.g., master clinical study agreements, master service agreements, investigator sponsored research agreements, hospital use agreements, device purchase agreements, data use and transfer agreements, informed consent forms, post-market clinical follow-up agreements, electronic medical record access agreements)

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ability to manage and prioritize a high-volume workload in a fast-paced working environment
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and organizational skills
  • Practical and business-minded approach to contract negotiation; ability to balance an appropriate level of risk for achievement of BSC’s strategic objectives with protection of BSC’s legal interests
  • Prior exposure to regulatory requirements governing clinical trials leading to approval or clearance of medical devices for commercial use is a plus
  • Juris Doctorate required; active good standing in one state bar in the United States
  • Deep understanding of contract law and legal concepts, including their practical application in a business environment
  • Basic understanding of HIPAA and GDPR
  • Ability to summarize and communicate legal concepts in a clear and concise manner
  • 2-5 years combined experience in a law firm or in-house legal department, with experience drafting and negotiating complex agreements
  • Prior experience engaging in internal operations projects (e.g., template development, policies), preferred
  • Strong experience in drafting and negotiating contract language with and without the assistance of content management tools and/or software
  • Ability to interact professionally and collaborate with all levels of management, multiple geographies, internal subject matter experts, legal staff, vendors and clients
