About the role
As a member of the Strategic Programs team, the Learning Consultant completes the team’s vision by supplying an innovative perspective that blends Human Performance Improvement (HPI) theory, adult learning expertise and business acumen. The role provides a distinct interpretation of data trends with a human-centered lens that amplifies the team’s value to the business and its success.
The Learning Consultant partners closely with leaders and cross-functional teams to diagnose current and emerging learning opportunities as the business rapidly moves forward. As a credible and informed partner, this role advises stakeholders to realize the strategic team’s full potential in supporting the business’s objectives and key results.
As an advocate of continuous improvement, consistently researches and identifies innovative tools, solutions, and modalities. Focused heavily on analysis, ideation, and evaluation, the Learning Consultant partners closely with the design and delivery teams that implement full-scale learning solutions that emerge from the Learning Consultant’s prototyping and pilots. This will own testing, prototyping, and evaluation phases of innovation and work to continuously transform the learning experience!
The Learning Consultant’s role is a unique blend of innovative consultative service, design and evaluation influence, continuous improvement, and project management!
Innovative Consultative Service:
- Advocate for the learner’s experience in design and development phases using data gathered while conducting empathy interviews, focus groups, usability tests, and pilots.
- Lead deep discovery and needs analysis processes that surface and articulate root causes and learner and performance needs, preferences, and gaps.
- Create an inclusive environment for teammates and stakeholders.
- Triage intake requests that require further investigation and recommend options for learning solutions and consult on self-service or curated options for our partners.
- Understand stakeholders’ business priorities and accurately represent partners during key decision-making opportunities.
- Challenge assumptions and current state structure to further Talent Success’ influence beyond traditional learning activities.
Design and Evaluation Influence
- Partner closely with instructional design and trainers on the delivery team in design and implementation phases.
- Engineer effective testing and feedback-gathering methods for prototyped solutions and pilots.
- Translate ground-breaking ideas and innovative proposals into tangible design documents and roadmaps that crisply transfer to the Delivery team for scaled execution.
- Educate learning teams and stakeholders about innovative learning design trends inside and outside the organization and industry.
- Apply authoring tool expertise to own prototyping and pilot design and results.
- Collaborate optimally within a learning team to own analysis, ideation, and evaluation phases of a project, capitalizing on a digital-first environment.
- Synthesize findings from usability sessions, prototype testing, and pilots to finalize a scalable instructional plan that is delivered to a development team for execution.
- Clearly illustrate novel combinations of quantitative and qualitative findings that highlight relevant insights and opportunities.
Continuous Improvement:
- Openly recommend critical improvements to learning solutions and experiences.
- Embrace challenges and barriers as opportunities to demonstrate Talent Success’ value to solve problems with innovation and deliver results.
- Proactively seek interactive opportunities with cross-functional teams and remain closely informed of key organizational initiatives and challenges.
- Prioritize the “big picture” and advocate for scalability and sustainability that achieves long-term goals.
Project Management
- Identify risks early in project lifecycles and define critical issue points, mitigation strategies, and minimum viable product standards.
- Accurately scope project effort and timelines, authoritatively identifying potential contingencies and scope creep.
- Knowledgeable of human-centered design methodology that includes needs analysis and skill and performance gap analysis.
- Partner with Program Managers to develop and maintain comprehensive project plans to document design and delivery.
- Adhere to and optimize internal project management standards to consistently deliver quality on time, every time.
Who you are
- A concise and compelling communicator that builds credibility and rapport with audiences at all levels (verbal, written, and executive presentation)
- Bachelor’s degree in business, organizational development, education, HR, a related field, or equivalent proven experience. Master’s degree preferred.
- Proficient with Microsoft and Google Suites of products and other L&D technology tools, LMS, Content Management, Adobe Suite, Rise, and related authoring tools
- A strategic problem solver who quickly makes sense of information, identifying risks and potential resolutions
- Exceptional project management skills and associated behaviors
- 4+ years in a corporate learning and development role, including at least one year of facilitation experience and at least two years of instructional design experience. Experience as a learning, OD, and/or strategy consultant preferred.
- An innovative and future-forward demeanor that translates ideas into concrete outcomes
- Demonstrable expertise in learning trends and learning technologies
- HPI Certification from approved provider
