DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS

Under the direct supervision of a Systems Administrator, this position is responsible for diagnosing and resolving software problems on network end devices and to assist with packaging and installation of new software releases and system upgrades. The encumbent works closely with other Information Technology team members to accomplish work as needed. When assigned, the encumbent frequently confers with users in order to resolve client software problems. Does related work as required.

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES

Works closely with system administrators to diagnose and remedy software problems with existing network end devices such as desktops, laptops, tablet computers and related peripherals including: printers, scanners and webcams.

Coordinates problem-solving efforts with vendors and system users.

Assists with building, deploying and troubleshooting network end devices during both department-wide and individual deployments.

Assists with packaging and installation of new software releases and system upgrades.

Assists in managing user accounts, group memberships and access rights.

Performs regularly scheduled routine preventative maintenance and patch management of computer systems including: servers, network end devices and other related peripherals.

Assists with database management and generates/monitors statistical reports.

Develops ongoing needs assessment to identify type and content of required training.

Monitors, responds to and documents outcomes of client requests in the current IT Customer Relationship Management tools.

Assists in the development/maintenance of system documentation.

Provides training as needed.

Thorough knowledge of information systems, principles and the methods of application.

Good knowledge of basic trouble shooting and maintenance of computer systems.

Good knowledge of standard office terminology, procedures and equipment. Good knowledge of directory structures, access methods and control, and information retrieval techniques.

Good knowledge of the principles and practices of software installation and the configuration of personal computers.

General knowledge of database administration.

Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.

Ability to work effectively with department staff from multiple agencies, computer technical staff, and outside vendors.
