The Junior Accountant (JA) will assist the Director of General Accounting and Accountants in performing accounting duties involved in compiling, analyzing, and reporting the financial performance of departmental operating units. The JA responsibilities will include but are not limited to; Reconciliation of the General Ledger Clearing Accounts of all facilities served, accurately state reconciling items and investigate proper accounting transactions to clear them off the account, prepare clear and accurate journal entries including proper documentation for support as well as key entries into the General Ledger system accurately. Additionally, the JA will prepare AP invoices to send to the supply chain for processing; assist in the preparation of month end AP accruals, and occasionally batch and key in of patient refunds into the Accounts Payable system. The JA will respond to requests for information from corporate, Internal Audit, Hospital Management, and other internal management. Occasionally the JA will assist accounts payable with processing invoices and other duties as assigned.
All organizational staff, including this position, are specifically required as a condition of continued employment to make advance preparations for their families and pets in the event of weather emergencies such as Hurricanes and flooding threats. Any staff member can be determined as essential staff required to report to the facility during these events. In many cases this means reporting and sleeping at the facility before, during and after a weather emergency. By signing this job description, the staff member accepts this responsibility of readiness to report to work during any designated emergency staffing situation. CMC staff members operate as one team meeting the healthcare needs of our communities, thus this position will on occasion complete other duties as assigned beyond those designated in this primary job description which may include “float” coverage at an alternate facility, department, or assignment.
Qualifications
Assessment of overall credit worthiness by review of a consumer credit report is required.
Education:
- Associate’s Degree in Accounting or closely related field required.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or closely related field preferred.
Experience:
- Previous healthcare accounting experience preferred.
- One (1) year General Ledger experience and Accounts payable experience preferred.
- A minimum of one (1) year Accountant experience required.
Special Skills:
- Exemplary core customer service skills strongly required.
- Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Explorer, Access and PowerPoint required.
- Strong organizational skills required.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills required.
- Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with nursing colleagues, physicians, department heads, and member of executive leadership required.
Working Conditions:
- Most work performed while sitting, however, a moderate amount of walking and moving around within a confined area occurs.
- Stress level high due to multiple demands frequently occurring simultaneously.
- Generally contained office type environment.
- Physical surroundings pleasant and comfortable.
