College of The Albemarle, located in Elizabeth City, North Carolina, is the state's first community college, founded in 1961. Through our four locations, we provide quality college transfer and career and technical education to residents in northeast North Carolina.
The Distance Education Programs Department is seeking to hire and Instructional Developer. Under the supervision of the Director of Distance Education Programs, this position will support two key areas: (1) provide technical support for instructional technologies, and (2) collaborate with subject-matter experts through design and development of our online instructional presence. The Instructional Developer supports the college's teaching and learning mission by facilitating innovative and accessible course design via hybrid and online formats, content development, assessment practices, feedback, and demonstration of student outcomes through the use of technology.
FLSA: Professional - Exempt

- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Works in conjunction with others in Distance Education Programs, along with Academic Deans, Department Chairs and Accessibility Services to ensure that all students have immediate access to our instructional resources.
- Provide end-user support to faculty, staff, and students to include troubleshooting for learning management system and other instructional technology systems within the help desk support system.
- Supports faculty and staff in the implementation and infusion of new teaching technologies and teaching strategies.
- Works collaboratively with subject-matter experts (faculty members from all subject areas) creating engaging online and hybrid courses that reflect online course standards.
- Researches and tests the latest instructional tools and approaches and creates training sessions (face-to-face and online) for our faculty members that focus on various technologies, instructional design and pedagogical best practices.
Required:
- Enrolled in Instructional Design, Educational Technology or related Master's degree program, completed at least 18 graduate semester hours, AND will earn the degree within one year.
- 1-2 years of relevant experience working with instructional design.
- Previous experience with a Learning Management System (Moodle, Blackboard, Canvas, etc.).
- Previous work experience in an educational institution and teaching online.
- Previous experience working with faculty members at a post-secondary institution.
- Experience with Lecture Capture (Mediasite), Exam Creation (Respondus), Plagiarism (Turnitin and SafeAssign), Student Information System (Colleague), Web Conferencing (Collaborate and Zoom), Accessibility (Ally), and Analytics/Reporting (IntelliBoard).
- Five years of experience providing instructional design.
- Teaching or training experience in a higher education environment.
- Experience in conducting webinars and online demonstrations.
- Previous experience supporting or teaching in a videoconferencing classroom.
- Experience providing instructional design specifically online classroom development.
- Proficiency in creating instructional products that incorporate audio and video.
- Experience in both universal and responsive design.
- Experience in creating accessible online classrooms.
- Master's degree in Instructional Design, Educational Technology or related field from a regionally accredited college or university.
Knowledge of:
- Hyper Text Markup Language (HTML), learning theories and of andragogy vs. pedagogy.
- The use of multi-media technology and computers.
- COA and the community college system and a commitment to its mission.
Ability to:
- Work independently in the absence of supervision.
- Achieve thoroughness and accuracy when accomplishing a task.
- Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Demonstrate organizational and time management skills.

- This is a remote-eligible position. The work schedule expectations are Monday-Friday between the hours of 8:00am-4:30pm(EST) in a collaborative environment within a virtual office.
