The New York Times Norfolk, Virginia office is looking for a Human Resources Specialist to report to, and partner with the HR Business Partner (HRBP) to the Shared Services Center (SSC). You will be the Primary Recruiter for the SSC and indirectly support employees and leaders across our Shared Services Center (SSC). Additionally, this important professional level position supports the Administrative Services and Facilities Departments. You will split your time between working at home and from our Norfolk, Virginia office.
Responsibilities:
  • Promote a culture of regular feedback in consideration of our mission and values.
  • Manage the Applicant Tracking System.
  • Assist and provide support with various HR projects.
  • Manage the full recruitment life cycle across a variety of open SSC roles. Partner with hiring managers to gain a comprehensive understanding of their hiring needs.
  • Back HRBP in their efforts to partner with COEs to design and deliver impactful people initiatives to SSC leaders and individual contributors.
  • Partner with Talent Acquisition and external recruiters to source candidates.
  • Manage the onboarding and offboarding processes for the SSC.
  • Conduct interviews and screen candidates.
  • Partner with HRBP to provide support on the administration of all HR transactions within Workday for the SSC.
  • Process employment and income verification requests for all NYT employees.
  • Conduct new hire orientation sessions for the SSC.
  • Backup support to the SSC receptionist and facilities manager, and provide other administrative tasks as needed.
  • Field inbound employee inquiries regarding company policies.
  • Create positions/job requisitions and post open positions.
  • Support the diversity, equity, and inclusion strategy of The Times.
  • Conduct background/reference checks.
Basic Qualifications:
  • Experience screening and interviewing candidates.
  • Experience working with a large HCM system, Workday HCM preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 3+ years HR experience, specifically in Recruitment.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Proficiency in all Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word and Excel.
  • Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment.
  • Have the mindset of a peer and thought partner, regardless of level. Effectively challenges existing points of view and offers ideas on how to address challenges and opportunities.
  • Collaborative and ability to build trust at all levels. Ability to navigate difficult conversations. Effectively influences and uses conflict resolution, facilitation skills and inquiry to problem solve and surface underlying issues.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to balance competing deadlines and adjust rapidly to changing priorities and direction.
  • Must be detail oriented and possess strong follow-up skills.
The annual base pay range for this role is between $65,000.00 - $75,000.00
