Position Purpose:
This position supports the primary human resource functions of recruiting, promoting, and announcement activities and processes; providing the Family and Medical Leave services to employees; and providing ergonomic assessment evaluations for employees. Duties include:
- Managing the recruitment activities for the Unified Judicial System (UJS) to actively recruit for vacancies and openings and promote the UJS as an employer of choice;
- Managing the ergonomic assessment process for UJS employees to ensure employees workstations are set up ergonomically;
- Managing and maintaining the position descriptions for the UJS to ensure accurate, descriptive, and consistent descriptions;
- Completing payroll action forms (PA) and processes payroll during the absence of the Human Resources Specialist;
- Completing special projects and reports as needed to assist the Human Resource office;
- Performing other work as assigned.
- Managing the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) processes in the Human Resource office to ensure compliance with federal and state law and UJS policies and procedures;
- Ensuring job openings are thoroughly advertised and applications are accurately routed to the appointing authority;
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of:
- Recruitment tools and resources such as social media platforms and other resources to promote the Unified Judicial System and recruit applicants;
- Classification methodology and evaluation;
- Human resource rules, policies, and procedures related to FMLA and ergonomic assessments/evaluations;
- Microsoft applications specifically Word and Excel.
Skill in:
- Critical thinking;
- Time management and effectively prioritizing workload.
- Problem-solving problems that arise and have not occurred in the past;
Ability to:
- Organize and create detailed spreadsheets;
- Create queries on various personnel/human resources data;
- Interpret and apply rules and procedures;
- Effectively promote the Unified Judicial System as an employer of choice;
- Communicate effectively both orally and in writing with a wide variety of people.
- Maintain confidentiality of UJS employees’ personnel and medical file information and work-related issues;
- Adhere to established deadlines and timeframes;
- Travel monthly for in-state for career fairs, recruitment activities, and ergonomic assessments and some out-of-state for recruitment and training;
Successful completion of a criminal background investigation is required for employment.
The State of South Dakota, Unified Judicial System does not sponsor work visas for new or existing employees.
