Job Description

The Naval Nuclear Laboratory comprises the U.S. Department of Energy locations and personnel responsible for developing advanced naval nuclear propulsion technology, providing technical support to ensure the safety and reliability of our nation’s naval nuclear reactors, and training the Sailors who operate those reactors in the U.S. Navy’s submarines and aircraft carrier Fleets. The Naval Nuclear Laboratory includes the Bettis and Knolls Atomic Power Laboratories, the Kenneth A. Kesselring Site, and the Naval Reactors Facility which have proudly supported the nation since 1946. The Naval Nuclear Laboratory has nearly 8,000 employees working at primary locations in Pennsylvania, New York, South Carolina, and Idaho. The Naval Nuclear Laboratory also has an established presence at numerous shipyards and vendor locations around the globe. We are dedicated solely to the support of the United States Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program. The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is operated by Fluor Marine Propulsion, LLC, a wholly own a wholly owned subsidiary of Fluor Corporation.

The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is looking for a Human Resources Generalist to join our Human Resources (HR) team in one of our New York Locations; the Kesselring Site near Saratoga Springs, NY or the Knolls Site near Niskayuna, NY. The HR Generalist will support the HR Business Partners and act as a resource to managers and employees for HR processes, procedures and policies. The HR Generalist will assist in providing HR counsel to a broad and diverse management and employee community, including union and non-union employees. The workforce includes technical, administrative, operations and support employee. The HR Generalist will assist on projects related to employee experience programs and engagement initiatives, advise and execute HR processes, including, but not limited to, compensation and talent programs, and share business insights through the use of data analytics. The HR Generalist will be assigned designated organizations they will support both virtually and in-person and will work closely with the HR business Partner to deliver HR related items in support of the NNL Mission and Vision. Required Combination of Knowledge and Skill

  • Master's degree in a related field from an accredited college or university and a minimum of one year of relevant experience.
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and a minimum of two years of relevant experience or;

All Candidates must possess and be able to demonstrate the following:

  • Demonstrated ability to influence and make decisions.
  • Demonstrated communication and interface skills relevant to interpretation of HR programs and coaching of leaders.
  • Demonstrated ability to solve problems, work through conflict and team well with others to achieve a deliverable.
  • Knowledge of federal and state employment and labor laws and how to apply those in a workplace.

Preferred Skills

  • HR Experience in an engineering or operations environment
  • Demonstrated ability to understand and apply laws such as ADA, FMLA, Privacy Act and FLSA
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret policy and execute it within an organization.
  • Two - four years of relevant professional HR experience
  • Experience understanding and applying change management principals.
  • Degree in HR Management
  • Understanding of HR programs to drive employee experience and share insights using data analytics.
  • Experience using HRIT Systems
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills demonstrated through partnering with peers and leadership.
  • Action oriented "can-do" approach that demonstrates commitment, ownership, and personal accountability.
  • Certifications in HR related materials, e.g. - SHRM, Data Analytics, Workforce Planning, etc.
