The Seattle Department of Construction and Inspections (SDCI) is seeking a Human Resources Assistant to join our dynamic and innovative team. A primary focus of this position will be on payroll coordination for a department of 400+ employees. In addition to payroll, this position will provide a full range of administrative support functions to our Human Resources Team.
This position applies concepts of race and social justice to all work and engages in departmental efforts to eliminate racial disparities and achieve racial equity in City government and broader community.
- Manage SDCI Employee Directory
- Provide support Joint Labor Management Meetings which includes preparing reports, taking notes, following up on requests, and being able to facilitate as needed.
- Provide backup support for Employee Benefits
- Interact with Citywide Payroll in adjusting leave balances; initiating or terminating automated payroll deductions; sick leave donation and transfer processing; stop and reissue payments, and uploading ad hoc premium or retroactive pay data to the City’s Time & Labor system.
- Provide training on the use of the timekeeping system to department staff, and training for supervisors in best timesheet review practices.
- Respond to general HR inquiries and elevate to relevant staff as appropriate.
- Responsible for other HR duties/projects as assigned.
- Create employee Labor Collection System (LCS) accounts; manage timesheet review groups, interact with internal and external IT staff to resolve payroll software incidents. Manage end-of-year payroll processing and transition between calendar years.
- Timesheet and Payroll Processing for a department of 400+ employees: review and submit bi-weekly timesheets; interact with employees and managers to communicate time and labor rules, and assist in resolving timesheet problems. Use standardized reports to monitor timesheet records and assist in the development of additional reporting as needed. Process exiting employee wage and leave balance cash-outs.
- HR administrative tasks, records retention/management including creating, organizing, filing and purging confidential employment records and files; assembling new employee orientation packets, drafting correspondence and reports as needed, distributing pay checks, etc.
Successful candidates will possess the following knowledge, skills, and experience:
- A demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures
- Demonstrated ability to work in a confidential environment
- MS Outlook, Excel, and Word proficiency, and familiarity with MS SharePoint and MS Teams
- Effective communication and organizational skills
- Demonstrated strong commitment to providing excellent customer service

The full salary range for this position is $29.54 - $34.47 per hour.
