Job Description

A leading and well-known student services administration located in Huntington, NY is looking for an HR Specialist to join the team ASAP. Please see additional details below:

Location: Huntington, NY - Long Island
Temporary to Permanent
Hybrid schedule (3 days/week onsite)

Key Responsibilities:

1. Leave of Absence Management:

  • Serve as the main point of contact for employees requesting LOA and provide guidance on eligibility, paperwork, and expectations.
  • Administer and oversee all aspects of LOA requests, ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations.
  • Collaborate with management and employees to facilitate a smooth transition during LOA periods.
  • Maintain accurate records of LOA cases, including tracking durations, approvals, and employee communications.

2. Benefits Administration:

  • Coordinate with benefit providers to resolve issues and ensure accurate and timely enrollment and termination of benefits.
  • Manage employee benefits programs, including health, dental, vision, retirement plans, and other employee perks.
  • Assist employees in understanding their benefit options, and facilitate open enrollment processes.
  • Stay current on changes in benefits regulations and compliance requirements.

3. Onboarding and offboarding administration:

  • Facilitate the administrative onboarding and offboarding process to ensure a great employee experience from signed offer letter to start date and orientation as well as their exit.

4. Compliance and Record Keeping:

  • Assist in preparing and submitting required HR reports and documentation as needed.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date HR records, including employee files, benefits documentation, and LOA records.
  • Stay informed about federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations to ensure company compliance.

5. Employee Relations:

  • Provide guidance to supervisors and employees on HR-related matters, including performance improvement plans and disciplinary actions.
  • Handle employee inquiries, concerns, and conflicts with discretion, professionalism, and empathy.

Qualifications:

  • Exceptional organizational and time management abilities.
  • Knowledge of federal and state employment laws and regulations.
  • Minimum of 2+ years of HR experience, with a focus on LOA, benefits, and onboarding.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
