Summary Of Position


The County of Monterey Health Department is currently seeking a motivated individual to fill one (1) Health Program Coordinator position within the Public Health (PH) Bureau. The Health Program Coordinator is a full- time, regular, staff-level professional position reporting to the Public Health Program Manager II.


The Health Program Coordinator (HPC) will administer critical public health programs in the Division of Communicable Disease Prevention and Control. The HPC will have responsibility for planning, budgeting, coordinating, implementing and administering the Public Health Emergency Preparedness and Hospital Preparedness Programs. The mission of the Division of Communicable Disease Prevention and Control is prevent, detect, and respond to public health issues through partnerships with local health care providers and facilities, community-based organizations, and other stakeholders.


The Health Program Coordinator’s key responsibilities include: development and maintenance of effective working relationships with service and healthcare providers and community groups; planning, coordination, maintenance, and evaluation of programs; engagement of stakeholders from the community and potential partnership organizations with regards to prevention, detection, and response to public health issues; and development of program goals and objectives with stakeholder input. The Health Program Coordinator will directly supervise Chronic Disease Prevention Coordinators and Specialists, as well as clerical staff.


The Eligible List established by this recruitment process may be used to fill current and future vacancies on a regular full-time, part-time, or temporary basis County-wide.


Examples of Duties


  • Answers questions and provides information to the public, supervises the enforcement of community health-related standards, codes and regulations, as required.
  • Prepares cost estimates and justifications for budget recommendations, assists in monitoring and controlling expenditures to ensure the accomplishment of objectives within an approved budget.
  • Maintains an effective working relationship with a variety of public and private organizations, including staff in other department divisions, County departments and outside agencies.
  • Participates in the development of goals, objectives, policies, procedures, and priorities within a specialized service area.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
  • Selects, supervises, trains and evaluates professional, technical and clerical subordinates.
  • Organizes, supervises, and monitors specialized health-related services and activities.
  • Provides staff assistance to higher level management on program issues.

As a conditional of employment, the incumbent will be required to:

  • Possess and maintain a valid California Class C driver’s license or the ability to provide suitable transportation that is approved by the appointing authority.
