The Sr. Director/Head of People Solutions will lead HR service delivery across all lines of the business. This role will be responsible for shaping the People Solutions strategy for Globally and the North America region and establishing the Global People Solutions organization and implementing the HR operating model (pictured below). They will provide leadership and direction to the People Solutions team to manage the efficient and effective delivery of all people administration, systems, and payroll activities for the region. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a deep working knowledge of best-in-class HR processes and operations to lead on large-scale strategic development programs through their team.


What You’ll Do:


  • Work with CHRO to design and drive a global ERP and technology strategy.
  • As a key member of the HRLT, formulate and drive the long-term vision and the strategy for the team with a focus on employee experience and process excellence, effectively anticipating key trends, opportunities, and vulnerabilities
  • Designing the Global People solutions strategy and roadmap for the future for James Hardie.
  • Ensure people and payroll systems are maximized; identify and drive systems improvements to deliver automation and efficiency
  • Drive the Strategy and execution plan to simplify, standardize and transform the delivery of the People Solutions team
  • Lead a team of People Solutions professionals and enable them for success, while helping them to increase their team's capability in the areas of employee service, payroll, transactions, data entry, data accuracy and audit, data analytics, and other core operations functions
  • Remain current with innovative People practices and informed on best-in class practices to improve operational effectiveness, as well as local and regional compliance requirements to ensure alignment of operational service delivery and processed
  • Ensure all people practices are planned effectively and well executed across systems and process in partnership with the HR CoEs and business partnering teams
  • Lead the Payroll, HRIS, Ops and Project team to ensure top service standards are maintained, additional Operational services i.e. Payroll, associated time keeping data and statistics, leave records and related information ensuring compliance with legislation, workplace agreements, Company Policy and internal control requirements
  • Lead local systems implementations
  • Drive a focus on talent with the HRLT to ensure identification and development of talent pipeline and building robust talent depth for key roles. Ensure career development programs and initiatives are aligned with required experience and skill development.
  • Support the HRIS Manager to develop appropriate people reporting and analytics cadence and ensure delivery against requirements
  • Work with the People Solutions team to ensure people data is managed effectively
  • Ensure the best-in-class people experiences across the employee lifecycle, running core people practices, people data and systems management for the region
  • Be a champion for the James Hardie business operating culture and core values to promote exceptional business performance. Support continuous improvement and a standard of excellence across the company.


What You’ll Bring:


The successful candidate will be a Strategically and operationally oriented, broad-based HR leader with strategic insights/big company vision, with at least 15 years of progressive HR leadership and Operations experience. They will have a track record of success contributing to HR model transformations, with exceptional Team leadership and communication skills, as well as exposure to best-in-class People solutions practices.


  • Strong communication & presentation skills, confidently Present Strategy and Projects to James Hardie Executive leadership team
  • Proven experience in the day-to-day management, evaluation and improvement of people practices, systems and tools to enhance the effectiveness of HR service delivery
  • Openness to feedback and coaching with a strong orientation towards continual learning and improvement. Ability to solicit, accept and provide direct feedback without defensiveness.
  • Bachelor’s Degree with a major in human resources preferred
  • Ability to plan and project manage people systems and process changes
  • Experience with systems implementations
  • A minimum of 15 years HR and/or operational experience having demonstrated a high level of competence over several business cycles, with at least 5 years in leading the People Solutions function role and at least 5 years of international/Global HR experience.
  • High emotional intelligence with the ability to navigate and discuss sensitive or challenging topics
  • Strong business acumen, developed in a manufacturing environment preferred
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail and accuracy; ability to prioritize and push back where required
  • Experience leading people, build effective teams and achieving through others
  • Experience initiating and driving systems and process enhancement to improve effectiveness and service delivery, including experience determining and delivering on SLAs for core processes
  • A strong leader with the ability to build and inspire a strong team
  • Strong capability and knowledge of ERPs (Workday, Success factors), payroll systems and HRIS / technology
  • Ability to build strong partnership within HR and the business and drive the Company and HR Strategy
  • Demonstrated ability to build credibility at all levels within the organization and influence senior leaders
  • Strong numeracy and the ability to develop financials for business cases
