Job Description
Role Summary


Reporting to the Head of Discovery and Early Development, the Head of Business Operations, Discovery and Early Development is responsible for driving and leading day‐to‐day operations for leader, including key interactions, meetings, & presentations. He/she serves as strategic advisor and sounding board for leader with a willingness and ability to provide ideas and solutions and their sound execution. The Head of Business Operations, Discovery and Early Development will also contribute to the emergence and growth of the new Discovery and Early Development organization, helping leader build an industry-leading organization, shape its culture and promote colleague engagement. The Head of Business Operations, Discovery and Early Development will ensure effective communications and engagements for leader with internal and external stakeholders.


Role Responsibilities


Operations


  • Quarterback and manage projects and produce materials that support and further business, portfolio, and strategic priorities
  • Optimize leadership team meetings by ensuring agendas further leadership priorities and strengthen team dynamic, with all actions tracked and commitments completed.
  • Lead day-to-day operations for the Head of Discovery and Early Development, including the management of key interactions, meetings and presentations to enhance organizational effectiveness and ensure successful communications and outcomes.
  • Manage a team of Administrative support and operational staff.
  • Create and maintain cross-enterprise relationships to manage and execute operational and planning needs to enable leadership and organizational success.


Business Planning


  • Produce strategic documents and presentations (e.g., analyst briefings, etc.) in collaboration with leader and partners
  • Partner with the leader to identify areas where they must direct their focus and identifying success metrics, revisiting regularly and evaluating progress.
  • Partner with Finance to manage Operating Plan and Operating budget.
  • Lead and/or participate in strategic projects and initiatives as appropriate to facilitate alignment, decision-making and implementation.
  • Drive portfolio and strategic priorities from conception to completion; contributing to the formation, positioning and success of new early discovery and development organization.
  • Contribute to and coordinate semester goals for leader and leadership team and ensure goals are advanced and achieved


Communications Engagement


  • Plan and manage critical meetings, events, and communications and ensure objectives and successful outcomes are achieved.
  • Partner with People Experience to design and lead various development opportunities for teams, leaders, and colleagues.
  • Partner with Communications to support planning and management of internal and external leader communications, including Town Halls, site visits, external appearances, press releases, media coverage, etc.).
  • Partner with Compliance to ensure adherence to local and global policies, e.g., Sunshine Act and Foreign Corrupt Practices Act.
  • Develop strong understanding of our R&D strategy, pipeline and capabilities, and actively use this knowledge to inform priorities for the leader and organization.
  • Eliminate barriers and silos and in foster a culture of collaboration, communication and transparency.
  • Lead team culture work and introduce initiatives to promote engagement and reinforce wellness as a leader priority.
  • Address and coordinate requests from various Pfizer stakeholders, e.g., PRD LT, RU members, etc.
  • Prepare talking points and communications for leader to support change initiatives, process improvements and organizational updates


Basic Qualifications


  • Preference for a scientific background and strong interest in learning more about our R&D strategy, pipeline, key assets and capabilities.
  • Bachelors degree (advanced degree a plus e.g. MBA, etc.) in science
  • The successful candidate will be a well-organized, creative, independent, self-motivated individual with exceptional written and oral communication skills.
  • 10+ years of experience in the Biotech/Pharmaceutical Industry or equivalent.


Preferred Qualifications


  • Possess a high energy level, sense of urgency, creativity, decisiveness, ability to work hard and well under pressure
  • Demonstrate a fundamental understanding of the pharmaceutical/biotech business and R&D/clinical environment with experience from early discovery through clinical development of therapeutic candidates.
  • Commitment to leadership, diversity and talent development
  • Ability to work effectively across interfaces and to navigate a complex matrixed organization.
  • Robust understanding of biopharmaceutical industry, R&D processes, and the external and internal business environment
  • R&D Operational and Business Line knowledge/experience a plus.
  • Proven ability in managing day-to-day Planning and Communication activities
  • Familiarity with the Pfizer organization (or other relevant organization), particularly R&D/Business Units/Enabling Functions.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, organizational maturity and ability to develop a network of trusted relationships with peers and other stakeholders
  • Demonstrated ability to influence without hierarchy across the organization
  • Experience with providing executive level support, and development of business and visibility platforms for senior executives.
  • Demonstrate Pfizer business and scientific acumen; strong project management and multi-tasking skills; ability to respond to tight timelines; proven capability to interact with all levels of the organization in a professional and discreet manner.
  • Experienced in communicating and interacting with senior internal and external stakeholders
