The Arch at 550 Madison Avenue is a private club-level and amenity space serving this prestige office building’s corporate clients. It is the heart of the building and a place where fine quality hospitality meet comfort and contemporary design. The space encompasses a 40-seat café, an espresso and wine bar, and nine separate private dining and conference rooms, including a library, screening room, billiards room, and chef’s table with dedicated kitchen. 550 Madison Avenue, located in Midtown Manhattan, is NYC’s only landmarked building to achieve LEED Platinum Certification, a globally recognized symbol of sustainability achievement.
Great Performances operates the Club Level Amenity Space at 550 Madison Avenue. This woman-owned business serving New York City for over 40 years is renowned for events catering as well as food service in celebrated New York City cultural institutions, including Jazz at Lincoln Center, Brooklyn Museum, Brooklyn Academy of Music, The Apollo Theater, and others. Great Performances is the nation’s first caterer to own and operate its own organic farm, Katchkie Farm, located in Kinderhook, NY. Job Focus
We are seeking a dynamic, hands-on General Manager with demonstrated experience in restaurants and special events. Join our management team and grow within the broad ranks of a woman-owned business serving New York City for over four decades.
The successful candidate will support the Director of Venue Operations in F&B operations, with an emphasis on overseeing and training staff and assuring a consistently high-quality guest experience. The management team will include a General Manager, Chef, Catering Manager, and Bar Manager. Overseeing approximately 20 full-time staff, plus on-call event staff, will require coaching, developing, and disciplining the team to assure that both guest and employee experience meet Great Performances hospitality and culinary standards.
The ideal General Manager will embrace a collaborative approach to supporting key stakeholders, including the property management and ownership teams for 550 Madison Avenue.
Responsibilities
- Employee Management
- Directing and supporting employees during service
- Ongoing employee training, including, daily pre-event meetings
Operations Management
- Enforce cleanliness and food safety in accordance with NYC Dept of Health standards
- Coordinate and manage the operation in preparation for and during scheduled service
- Maintain open and professional communications with back-of-house staff
- Resolve guest issues and concerns with a professional demeanor
- Assure service standards as defined in the Great Performances Hospitality and Employee Guides
Events Management
- Assist with rentals and other on-site special event ordering needs
- Accommodate event customer requests
- Oversee and support the service team for on-site catered events
Qualifications
- Welcoming and polite manner, neat and professional appearance
- Track record managing team of ten or more employees
- Handles the pressures of simultaneously coordinating a wide range of activities
- Determines appropriate solutions to common food service problems
- Food Handler's Certificate a plus
- Computer skills required to fulfill management functions, including MS Word and Excel
- Minimum 5 years food and beverage experience
- Self-motivated and initiative driven with leadership ability
- Excellent spoken and written communications skills
- Knowledge of Department of Health standards
- Combined practical hands-on experience and formal hospitality education

Salary $115,000 - $125,000/yearly
