Job Description

Levine Querido is looking for freelance copy editors to add to our roster.

We're a new publisher, ambitious in our goals and for our authors, with a mission to

publish truly exceptional books by historically underrepresented groups. Ideal

candidates will have experience with children’s and/or young adult books, be detail-

oriented, and able to meet deadlines. BIPOC, LGBTQ+, and multilingual candidates are

highly encouraged to apply.


Copy editors will be expected to:

  • Correct spelling, grammar, punctuation, and usage
  • Consult with editors to resolve any queries in the manuscript
  • Comply with LQ house style, The Chicago Manual of Style, and Merriam-Webster’s Collegiate Dictionary
  • Copyedit using the Track Changes function in Word
  • Identify and tag levels of heads and other style elements using the Microsoft Word Styles feature
  • Create a style sheet
  • Edit text to ensure readability while maintaining author voice
  • Make spelling, capitalization, hyphenation, abbreviations, and formatting consistent


Our current rate for freelancers is $25-$30 per hour. All applicants that pass the resume

review will be sent editing tests to complete.
