Job Description
The F&B Director reports to the Clubhouse Manager or Assistant General Manager and indirectly to the General Manager.


In this highly visible position, the individual is responsible for all Food & Beverage operations including Restaurants, Banquets, Events, Men’s Cardroom, Turn House, West Pavilion, Golf and Tennis events.


While our product offering is a Country Club, clearly, we are in the people business and the Food & Beverage Director must possess the finest skills in this area. To be successful in this role the individual must have a natural affinity for people, demonstrate inspirational leadership, and truly enjoy interacting with both members and staff to ensure that “Platinum” level service is being provided and that there is a high level of satisfaction among our membership. Attention to detail, a passion for excellence, exceptional interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to manage for results are critical for an individual to enjoy ongoing success in this position.


In addition to the management functions of running an operation with gross revenues exceeding $3M in F&B revenue, the ability to engage and motivate a staff of 6 plus managers and their work teams is essential.

The Professional advocates and establishes proper quality levels and standards for goods and services and is entrusted with the fiscal responsibilities of the F&B department. He/She is accountable for staff development, training and performance coaching.

Responsibilities


As an active member of the extended Providence Country Club Management Team, this position works hand in hand with all management departments of the Club as well as with McConnell Golf’s Food & Beverage Team.


The scope of the below mentioned responsibilities only outlines a fraction of the job duties required by the F&B Director and are not limited to


Key Strengths


  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ensures that all legal requirements are consistently followed.
  • Recognizes the need to continually improve existing member services, and introduce new events and programs to enhance member satisfaction and event participation.
  • Focuses on ongoing staff training.
  • Reviews daily, weekly and monthly financial reports and proactively manages to address trending projections in order to attain budgetary goals.
  • Accepts criticism from Club members with grace and takes the appropriate action to correct member service issues.
  • Works with Human Resources to ensure top talent is hired and that on-going training and development is provided for staff.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook as well as Point of Sale Systems.
  • Assures that the club’s preventative maintenance and energy management programs are effectively utilized and makes changes when necessary.
  • Participates in on-going facility inspections throughout the club to assure that cleanliness, maintenance, safety and other standards are consistently attained.
  • Keen knowledge of service techniques.
  • Creative and organized.
  • Demonstrates a high degree of business and financial acumen and works closely with Controller.
  • Self-motivated and self-managing, efficient in time management and decision-making.
  • Interacts with members answering questions, solving problems, overseeing services and ensuring club cleanliness.
  • Consistently enforces all policies as per employee handbook.
  • Assists in the planning of facility improvements, remodeling, construction and repair and interacts with applicable club committees for this purpose.
  • Motivates direct reports and has clear communication with them on a daily basis.


Job Duties


  • Monitors the budget and controls expenses so that goals are attained.
  • Functions as an administrative link between departments.
  • Is a positive, upbeat leader of the Club who proactively leads the team to provide excellent service and quality products.
  • Monitors safety conditions and employees’ conformance with safety procedures, updates emergency plans and procedures and assures
  • Provides inspirational leadership in running and managing all aspects of the club in conjunction with the Assistant General Manager.

  • Creates room diagrams and battle plans for all functions.
  • Provides P&L statements upon request for individual events.
  • Inspects banquet rooms to ensure proper maintenance of a clean and orderly area.
  • Present for weddings, large events and large member events.
  • Plans, and executes banquets, luncheons, meetings, weddings, dances and other social events.
  • Assists with room decorations for special events and holidays.
  • Performs other duties as requested by management.

  • Food and Beverage Management team
  • Other department heads as needed for special events (Membership, Youth, Aquatics, Golf, Tennis, etc.)

Qualifications


Education and/or Experience


  • A Bachelor’s Degree from a four-year university or college is highly desirable, preferably in Hospitality Management.
  • A minimum of 3-5 years of progressive leadership/management experience in a private club, contemporary business model or


similar hospitality operation known for high service standards.


  • Menu design.
  • Food and beverage cost controls and operating procedures.
  • Knowledge of and ability to perform required role during emergency situations.
  • Wine, spirits and bar operations.
  • Build a team, train, and maintain employee teams.
  • Manage stress and time.
  • Polished, professional appearance and presentation.
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Point-of-sales systems.
  • Marketing and promotions.
  • Effective communication through all department levels and throughout club.


Licenses And Special Requirements


  • Food safety certification.
  • Alcoholic beverage certification.


Physical Demands and Work Environment


  • Push, pull or lift up to 80 pounds.
  • Work in hot, humid and noisy environment.
  • Required to stand for long periods and walk, climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, bend, stretch and twist or reach.
