About The Role

We are looking for 2 x Project Field Engineer to manage a variety of moderate to major-sized Rehabilitation & Closure projects and studies across the Salt Lake City, Kennecott Copper business. These roles support the Senior Engineers for their projects as well.


This role is a great opportunity to join a truly global mining organization and be involved in the planning and delivery of rehabilitation projects from initiation to completion, and is focused on achieving objectives through managing resources, budgets, schedules, changes, and risks. Typical responsibilities and accountabilities for this position


  • Leading, planning, and coordinate the study or implementation stages of projects, including the management of all functional areas.
  • Manage project daily reports and project documentation.
  • Planning and delivering relevant safety requirements into all activities, tasks, and projects based on assessed hazards, identified critical risks, and mitigating actions.
  • Coordinate day-to-day work scope between other contractor teams and active operations.
  • Accountable for safely and successfully delivering the project and business case by ensuring the results meet technical, quality, cost, and schedule requirements as per the lifecycle stages.
  • Assisting with resourcing, procurement, contract management, and progress reporting
  • Rehabilitation projects typically include civil work to reclaim mine waste dumps, tailings impoundment cap and close, demolition, environmental-based projects, and ESG-related endeavors.
  • Assisting with proper project governance and stage gate approvals. Presenting reports, requesting funding, and public speaking.
  • Quality assurance by reviewing plans, quality of executed work, and corrective actions as required.
  • Assisting the project manager with a variety of projects and technologies that will require you to leverage engineering, business, and cross-functional team management skills
  • Track construction as-builts and work progress via applications, reports, and technical reviews. Coordination of Pre-commissioning and commissioning activities.


What You’ll Bring


To be successfully considered for this role, you will have


  • Advanced degree in engineering, construction management, earth science, rehabilitation, or project management.
  • 3 – 5+ years of progressively responsible experience in projects with experience in heavy industry, mining, or related fields.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and experience with computer system applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MS Project


It will also be beneficial if you have


  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, or other relevant related experience in Project Management or a related field.
  • Broad understanding of program management, project management, project controls, business improvement, contract management, risk management & change management.
  • Schedule development and management experience.
  • Experience with operational personnel coordination and ability to work with cross-functional teams. This includes strong communication and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Ability to read and understand complex mechanical, structural, and civil engineering plans and specifications.
  • Knowledge of Project-based software tools and systems.
  • Critical Risk Management and practices to mitigate safety risks associated with construction work.
  • Quality assurance, pre-commissioning, and commissioning experience are a plus.
