JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
The Eberly College of Science (ECoS) Office of Science Outreach invites candidates to apply for the position of Education Program Specialist 2 .
This position reports to the Director of Science Outreach. The successful candidate should, in collaboration, expect to contribute to the following:
- Develop, advertise, and implement outreach programs and events such as after-school programs, Science-U summer camps, and on-campus STEM events
- Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned by the Director
- Seek funding through grants, corporate entities, and external foundations to support the office’s programs
- Maintain youth safety through organizing volunteer and employee clearances and trainings
- Coordinate among university outreach partners such as volunteers, students, and faculty
- Assess program efficacy through surveys and interviews with participants and volunteers/employees
- Advise ECoS faculty on the inclusion of science outreach Broader Impacts activities in research proposals
- Assist in interviewing, hiring, training, and supervision of student staff, wage, and work-study staff
Education and Experience
This position typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher plus two years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Outstanding interpersonal, organizational, learning and communication abilities (both verbal and written)
- Ability to adjust to a changing schedule, particularly during intense summer programs in June, July, and August. Note that this position is classified as exempt under the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act, meaning that weekly hours may occasionally exceed 40 during some programming
- Enthusiasm, creativity, a passion for connecting science to the public, and a commitment to customer service
- Capability to work both independently and as an effective member of a team.
- Knowledge of computer programs including Microsoft Office and Adobe Suite preferred
- Ability to multitask and respond professionally in stressful situations
- Prior work in developing or implementing science-oriented outreach or education programs for diverse audiences, including K-12 youth
This position will require successful completion of the three publicly available clearances:
- Federal (FBI) Fingerprint Background Check (Criminal History Report)
- Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Background Check (SP4-164)
- Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance Form (CY-113)
