Job Description
The Education Manager will consistently demonstrate and practice excellent nursing skills and professionalism. He/she is responsible for assisting the director in department functions, demonstrating skills in coordinating and supporting clinical and ancillary departments for staff development and clinical education services. He/she is responsible for providing training and education on clinical skills and for developing educational competencies. He/she meets and exceeds compliance on nursing education standards with core measures, The Joint Commission (TJC), and other regulatory requirements. He/she consistently demonstrates exemplary customer service and strong interpersonal skills to all entities including physicians, patients, and educational partners. He/she strives for self-improvement with strong problem-solving and analytical skills and ability to work independently. This role is active in performance improvement as it applies to the department and organization.


This position requires full understanding and active participation in fulfilling the Mission of Whittier Hospital Medical Center. It is expected that the employee will demonstrate behavior consistent with the Core Values. The employee shall support Whittier Hospital Medical Center’s strategic plan and the goals and direction of the Performance Improvement Plan (PIP).


Facilitates and manages nursing and ancillary department in identifying the learning needs of their respective staff.


Develops and coordinates staff educational programs to meet the identified needs.


Provides educational services in cost-effective manner.


Assures that a sufficient number of regulatory mandated clinical educational activities are offered on an annual basis to hospital staff


Functions as a resource person for staff members; follow up promptly on question regarding further research or discussions.


Assists in the competency assessment and documentation process of staff as appropriate and requested by department director(s).


Consistently evaluates the effectiveness of teaching and learning of staff and patients to assure continuity of care and safety of patient. Documents learning of patients appropriately on patient medical record.


Supports management in assuring that staff development activities are consistent with current education standards and accreditation requirements.


Coordinates with nursing and ancillary departments in providing inservice to new equipment, policies and procedures.


Maintains personal competency levels for teaching and assessing staff according to specifics of department needs and technology updates with director approvals or recommendations.


Certification/Education


  • Bachelor's in Nursing, required. MSN degree, preferred.
  • Current California Registered Nurse license.
  • Current American Heart Association BLS and ACLS Provider certifications.


Experience


  • At least five (5) years of clinical experience with strong background in Medical Surgical, Telemetry, and/or Critical Care, required.
  • Prior experience in training adult learners, preferred.
  • Strong oral and written communication, teaching, problem-solving, and organizational skills are required.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Windows applications, required.
