Job Description
Class Concept

Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED required, supplemented by vocational or technical training in a related field; supplemented by five years of experience in public safety dispatch and/or 911 emergency communications, to include lead or supervisory experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
Specific License or Certification Required: Must possess and maintain valid Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Instructors Training Certification, Emergency Medical Dispatcher (EMD) Certification, Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Instructor Certification, and Georgia Crime Information Center (GCIC) and National Crime Information Center (NCIC) Certification. All certifications must be obtained and maintained within one (1) year of employment.
Specific Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities: Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in performance of the essential functions and learn, comprehend, and apply all county or departmental policies, practices, and procedures necessary to function effectively in the position.


Example of Duties

Purpose of Classification:
The purpose of this classification is to perform duties related to coordinating and conducting training programs for E911 employees. Responsibilities include organizing and administering emergency communications training programs, assisting with class curriculum, and serving in a supervisory capacity as needed. The incumbent in this classification evaluates departmental training requirements related to emergency communications operations and makes recommendations for specific training needs.
Essential Functions:
The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.
Plans, develops, organizes, and administers an emergency communications training program: evaluates departmental training requirements related to emergency communications operations and makes recommendations for specific training; prepares and submits training curriculum outlines and lesson plans to appropriate officials; projects training needs through TrainTrack system; develops training programs using PowerPoint and other training tools; trains new hires to use Computer Aided Dispatch in a simulated training environment; and accesses Accessing AMS to schedule employees for training with Fulton County Training Division; and administers various certification courses as required.
Assists with Human Resource functions with Emergency Communications Department hiring processes: receives recruitment registers, coordinates and schedules pre-employment interviews and random drug testing, and recommends applicants for hire; conducts background investigations on applicants; mails pre-employment letters, prepares performance evaluations for new hires during training; and maintains workers' compensation records related to departmental safety and accident prevention.
Conducts training sessions with the Police, Fire, Emergency Medical Services, Sheriff, and Marshal's Departments.
Submits reports related to departmental activities, expenditures, and recommendations; provides budgetary information to support training needs
Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with County personnel as well as external customers: develops public education initiatives that take place in senior centers, multipurpose facilities, schools, summer camps, and other venues; receives, responds to and resolves concerns from the general public related to training issues.
Reviews and recommends revisions to standard operating procedures and the departmental training manual.
Performs other administrative functions: conducts roll call; prepares or completes various forms, reports, correspondence, and other documentation, including daily equipment checklist, attendance reports, critical incident reports compiles data for further processing or for use in preparation of department reports; assists with department website; and maintains computerized and/or hardcopy records.
Additional Functions:
Performs the duties of a shift supervisor as required. Performs other related duties as required.
