Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Science or any related discipline; supplemented by three years of experience in a related field; or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
Specific License or Certification Required: Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver's license (as required by position assignment).
Specific Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities: Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in performance of the essential functions and learn, comprehend, and apply all county or departmental policies, practices, and procedures necessary to function effectively in the position.
Examination:
The examination will consist of an evaluation of education and experience, accomplished by analysis of the application. Application must document that the applicant possesses the minimum knowledge, skills, education and experience as listed to be rated as qualified. If selected, an official, accredited college transcript is required, at time of employment, for all degrees/course work used to qualify for this position.

Purpose of Classification:
The purpose of this classification is to perform process duties related to promoting environmental awareness and consciousness of water resources, water conservation, recycling, pollution, and water quality and streams within the geographical boundaries of Fulton County, including conducting educational classes, workshops, and community outreach programs; developing informational materials; researching environmental trends and issues; and preparing technical reports. Environmental Education Coordinator is distinguished from Environmental Quality and Education Manager in that the formerpromotes public awareness and consciousness of various environmental issues through classes, workshops, and community events; whereas the latter plans, coordinates, and manages a comprehensive environmental education and awareness program for a variety of audiences in addition to managing assigned staff.
Essential Functions:
The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.
Promotes public awareness and consciousness of various environmental issues, such as water conservation, recycling, non-point source pollution, water quality, stream monitoring, and xeriscaping.
Conducts environmental education classes, camps, and workshops for adult and children's groups.
Develops informational materials on laws and regulations pertaining to water quality, conservation, stream quality, non-point source pollution, and the involvement of community groups and governmental agencies.
Conducts community outreach programs to attract local coordinators and citizen volunteers for community clean-up and other environmental events.
Trains citizen volunteers in a variety of stream-watch activities, such as visual stream surveys, watershed walks, construction site monitoring, macro invertebrate monitoring, and chemical sampling.
Visits new and existing neighborhoods to promote storm water drain stenciling to bring attention to the need to protect local waterways, lakes, streams, plants, animals, and aquatic life from the effects of hazardous runoff.
Researches environmental trends and issues and prepares and submits technical reports, grants, and/or correspondence.
Collaborates with the Public Works Department, State of Georgia, and other applicable agencies regarding environmental program parameters and ways to further develop water related programs.

Functional Reasoning: Requires the ability to apply principles of influence systems, such as motivation, incentive, and leadership, and to exercise independent judgment to apply facts and principles for developing approaches and techniques to resolve problems.
Situational Reasoning: Requires the ability to exercise judgment, decisiveness and creativity in situations involving the evaluation of information against sensory, judgmental, or subjective criteria, as opposed to that which is clearly measurable or verifiable.
