SPECIAL NOTICE REGARDING THE WORK LOCATION OF THIS POSITION—Although WestEd provides the option of working at one of its facilities for employees, many roles allow employees to choose to work remotely for their own convenience. The Opportunity
The DEI Manager will engage in efforts to support and promote the agency’s internal DEI commitment. This position will drive the DEI learning and professional development strategy, will lead cultural recognition initiatives and programs, serve as the departmental liaison with agency ERGs and divisional DEI functional area leads, and support departmental communications and will partner with the agency’s Employee Engagement Manager on complimentary initiatives.
Core Focus Areas:
- Oversee agency wide cultural recognition programming such as cultural months, days, events.
- Drive DEI professional development in the form of trainings, workshops, coaching, material development, delivery, vendor selection.
- Thought Partnership with DEI Director.
- Other support duties.
- Partner with Employee Engagement Manager on overlapping initiatives.
- Support of Employee Resource Groups and DEI Functional Area Leads.
- Support of departmental webpages and communications.
Position Description:
- Maintain annual Cultural Calendar that recognizes key days, months, events and moments of significance and facilitate communication and recognition across the agency.
- Develop, implement and oversee an agency wide professional development plan to support a culture of diversity, equity and inclusion.
- Provide thought partnership on DEI trends, innovation, best practices, and emerging issues and solutions.
- Source impactful and topical speakers for a DEI speaker series.
- Partner with our Communications team to maintain our departmental brand, create and disseminate departmental communications and ensure the departmental internal webpage is current.
- Provide coaching that supports inclusivity.
- Identify, evaluate and recommend external training partners and manage their selection, performance and budgets as well as integration into existing learning roadmap and systems.
- Develops a comprehensive professional staff training and development strategy to support professional staff across levels and offices.
- Partner with internal experts to support the professional development plan.
- Support the execution of the DEI strategic plan.
- Provide support to our Employee Resource Groups and DEI Functional Area Leads to ensure consistency, support programming and increase impact.
- Partner with Communications to provide support and ideas for DEI Communications.
- Design, develop and facilitate DEI related learning and development opportunities.
- Partner with the Employee Engagement Manager on complimentary initiatives.
What We’re Looking For:
- Ability to maintain the highest level of confidentiality.
- Experience planning and managing both small and large-scale training events.
- Strong project management skills with positive results-oriented attitude.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel, and in using web-based collaboration tools (WestEd uses Box, Smartsheet, Zoom).
- Strong written, oral, and presentation communication skills.
- Proven aptitude for creative thinking, practical problem-solving, and innovating solutions.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Minimum 5 years experience with diversity, equity, inclusion and/or experience in training and development, organizational learning, organizational development within the DEI space.
- High level of self-motivation and ability to work independently.
- Broad knowledge of learning, training and development in the workplace.
- Outstanding interpersonal skills.
- Broad and deep knowledge DEI principles and best-practices.
- Masters degree or equivalent experience in Human Resources, Psychology or related course of study or equivalent work experience required.
- Note: Visa sponsorship is not available for this position. Successful candidates must be authorized to work in the United States.
SALARY AND BENEFITS:
The full salary range for this position, WestEd level I $116,700 and $200,000 but WestEd does not typically hire at or near the top of the salary range. The typical hiring salary for this role is $133,360 to $166,700. The actual offer takes into account multiple factors including but not limited to education; experience; internal equity, and other organizational needs.
In addition to the base salary, benefits include:
- 15% contribution toward retirement effective day 1 of employment (Example: Total Cash Compensation based on $100K annual salary + 15% ($15,000) = $115,000/yr with WestEd retirement contribution)
- Pre-tax Flexible Spending Accounts
- All health/welfare benefits are effective first of the month following hire date
- PTO: 3 weeks’ vacation (increases to 4 weeks beginning the 4th year of employment) +13 paid holidays / 12 days paid sick leave per year
- Life Insurance: value of 3x gross salary (Example: Based on annual salary of $100K x 3 = $300,000 Life Insurance value)
