Job Title: Director, Project Management Office (PMO)

Job Summary
The Director, Project Management Office (PMO) is responsible for directing and managing the PMO team members. This team is responsible for providing portfolio, program and project management services, building upon current standards, processes, methodologies, and continuing to refine the project management capabilities. This role is integral in supporting the organizational leadership in overseeing, managing, and using the entire life cycle of investments and initiatives to achieve goals and objectives. This leader must have proven experience to successfully deliver on a diverse portfolio. The position requires significant leadership capabilities to ensure progression of the portfolio while utilizing both the directly managed PMO team and other functional PMs in the organization.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities
  • Directs the development and maintenance of standards, methodologies, practices, products, tools and training offerings for project and program management
  • Directs and provides consulting services and support to practitioners, subject matter experts, business and technical executives and stakeholders across the company to evaluate project/program readiness, conducts project/program health reviews and assessments, assist with standards and practices compliance and adherence reviews, and assist with sourcing and resource management requests
  • Provides and escalates data on achieving an optimized mix among project investments, making the best possible use of all resources
  • Identifies, prioritizes, and coordinates project and program resources engaged with all or many of the initiatives within the project portfolio
  • Focus and prioritize initiatives and efforts
  • Conduct regular meetings with the senior executive bodies. Inform them of any issues with the performance of individual projects within the portfolio. Confirm the use of resources and funding is on plan and highlight any variances
  • Ongoing financial analysis projects/initiatives planned, underway and completed
  • Oversee the development of project tracking and KPI dashboards and tools to support project managers and site KPIs, including scope, budget, and resources
  • Accountable for the efficient and effective facilitation of regular and highly visible PMO governance meetings
  • Ensure consistent utilization of proven project management structure which will include, at a minimum, gating for initiation, planning, execution, and closure
  • Ensure proactive identification and response to program and project risks and opportunities
  • Build a culture within the PMO team that aligns with NiSource values and enables peer to peer accountability
  • Tracking on expected financial benefits achieved post launch for a defined amount of time
  • Establish the pathways for escalation of program and project issues within the organization to provide the right level of awareness and decision-making
  • Train, coach and set expectations for all dedicated and functional project managers to improve project management capabilities of the site
  • Manage collaboration with key stakeholders to align expectations
  • Contribute to the establishment and improvement of the network PMO operating model and ensure connectivity with the network regarding implementation of best practices and lessons learned
  • Reviews, establishes, and ensures adherence to Project Management SOPs
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree required
  • 8+ years of relevant work experience
  • Experience with strategy development and execution (e.g., strategic planning, roadmap development)
  • Stakeholder engagement and ability to collaborate and influence at multiple levels across the organization
  • Capability to think strategically and synthesize a coherent story
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical and collaboration skills.
  • Strong oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong knowledge in understanding Portfolio, Program and Project management practices and methodologies

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's or advanced degree preferred
