Major Duties and Responsibilities:
As a project manager within the organization, you bring your project management experience and training to the organization to oversee projects—facilitating project health, best practices, and efficiency.
Day-to-Day activities:
- You establish relationships with Business Relationship Managers and business sponsors to learn the business goals/objectives/needs for each assigned project.
- You receive and maintain an assigned collection of 4-8 active, concurrent projects across diverse, interesting lines of business e.g. Office of Information Services, Employee and Business Services, Office of Child Support, Finance, etc.
- You serve a project manager within the Office of Information Services (OIS) Portfolio Management Office (PMO).
- You perform other related duties as assigned (e.g., travel to attend meetings, conferences, and workshops; make presentations; consult with program/policy staff on developing new procedures/policies; update knowledge of technology products and solutions; participate in industry and other professional networks to ensure awareness of industry standards, trends, innovations, and best practices; operate personal computer to produce correspondence, reports, and other documents; maintains logs, records, and files).
- You collaborate with a team of fellow project managers to search for ways to innovate and continually improve the organization’s processes and skills.
- You maintain entries on project tasks, task members, issues/risks, and status reporting within centralized, online project and portfolio management centralized platform (Clarity®).
- You communicate skillfully, clearly, and regularly through virtual meetings, virtual discussions, emails, status reports, and instant messaging.
- You exercise your existing project management skills and continue to build skills in scope management, schedule management, project team management, risk management, stakeholder management, and project status reporting.
- You collaborate with the project team to exercise problem-solving skills as issues and challenges arise e.g. project delays, ambiguous scope, infeasible scope, project extensions, inadequate resources, etc.
- You meet and facilitate the discussion of regular status meetings. You collaborate with the assembled project team where the entire team identifies the best solution to fulfill the business area’s needs, the technical solutions to be built, and the specific tasks to be performed to design, build, test, deploy, and support those solutions.
Desired Skills:
- Experience in managing projects.
- Experience in leading and managing teams.
- Experience in project management methodologies: waterfall, and agile techniques.
- PMI PMP preferred. Agile certifications preferred.
Excellent communication and leadership skills.
The following are the minimum qualifications for this position. For further consideration, applicants must clearly identify how qualifications are met within the education and/or experience sections of the application.
The ideal candidate, at minimum, must have the following:
Option 1:
- Successful completion of 2 yrs. post-secondary education majoring in business administration, public administration, computer science/information technology, social science, or health, with major being commensurate with project to be assigned;
AND
- 12 mos. exp. in budgeting & calculating cost projections of program/projects.
- 3 yrs. exp. in project management (i.e., management & development of project/program requirements, design, development, testing/pilot, training & full scale implementation), with experience to be commensurate with project/program &/or position description on file (e.g., specific human service program area, management information sciences, fiscal);
AND
- 12 mos. exp. in budgeting & calculating cost projections of program/projects.
Major Worker Characteristics:
Knowledge of:
- Public policy management or public administration; public finance; public budgeting; project management; life cycle methodologies; time management; matrix management; public relations;interviewing; market trends; supervisory/management techniques*
Skill in:
- Operation of personal computer & applicable software (e.g., Gantt chart/project planning software, presentation software, spreadsheet applications)*.
Ability to:
- Manage multiple demands or tasks on projects or programs; solve problems involving several variables in unique situations; review & evaluate project progress; develop & deliver presentations; communicate effectively on project information in a team setting.

Unless required by legislation or union contract, starting salary will be set at step 1 of the pay range (currently $37.02 per hour). If this position is filled internally, the wage rate will be determined in accordance with such.
This Position is Unclassified per Section 124.11 (A)(9) ORC.
Job duty, knowledge, skill, and ability statements at a lower level are understood to be able to be performed at any higher level.
May be placed on-call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Required to carry and respond to pager/cellular phone as assigned.
Travel required, as needed. Must provide own transportation or, in order to operate a state vehicle, you must have a valid driver’s license.
