Job Description

With a customer base of 54,000 policyholders, SAIF is bound to have a technology project or two, or several, happening at any given time. Thankfully, our information technology team is a group of problem-solvers with the right resources and solutions to any tech problem.

Our team is currently seeking a project manager to ensure technology projects meet business needs.

Responsible for developing project plans and defining scope, schedule, and budget, our new project managers will oversee projects from their blueprint phase to completion (and sometimes longer to measure success). You’ll look at projects with a strategic lens to ensure they align with company goals. You’ll communicate frequently with stakeholders throughout the company—often at the executive level—so strong verbal and written communication are a must.

Project manager duties are diverse as you’ll work on multiple projects, which vary in complexity, scope, and scale, so you’ll need to adjust your approach and planning accordingly. Flexibility and solid understanding of the software development lifecycle essential. Your tasks will include sharing best practices within your team and across the company, building relationships, helping assign resources and tools based on your research, maintaining schedules, and evaluating success.

SAIF’s collaborative culture respects the input and contribution of every employee. Could you be the new project manager SAIF is looking for?

NOTE: Flexible workers may be required to travel to SAIF’s offices in Salem, Oregon on a quarterly basis.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the selection of vendors, negotiate contracts, and monitor performance to ensure vendors meet contractual obligations.
  • Develop project strategies aligned with SAIF business objectives. Research project areas to ensure an in-depth understanding of the issues and best practices.
  • Prepare complex project budgets, monitor expenditures throughout the project, and manage variances.
  • Consult with division and executive management to establish direction and ensure a clear understanding of the project.
  • Continually sustain the Inclusive Leadership Competencies (ILC) through the Explorer level on an annual basis.
  • Develop and implement communication, training, and change management plans for assigned projects.
  • Report project status and work plan updates to keep IT management, sponsors, and executives apprised of major progress, issues, and risks.
  • Provide leadership and motivation to project team members throughout the project life cycle.
  • Create and execute project plans that establish objectives, define the project scope, assumptions, risks, and overall project approach including project resource needs, timelines, and communications.
  • Manage the operational transition to ensure successful transition and on-going support for the product.
  • Identify, track, and manage project risks, issues, action items, and status of all deliverables.
  • Act as a resource across the corporation to provide project management best practices. Act as an administrator and product support for enterprise wide project management tools.
  • Understand and participate in IT project governance.
  • Explore diverse perspectives and consistently behave sensitively toward differences in cultural norms, expectations, and ways of communicating. Work effectively with others who have different perspectives, backgrounds, and/or work styles.
  • Conduct follow up reviews to evaluate success and lessons learned.
  • Manage complex stakeholder, vendor, and team relationships.
  • Manage one or more highly complex IT projects. Lead assigned projects through implementation utilizing project management best practices.

Recommended qualifications

Candidates with less experience may be considered for an IT project manager III.

  • Bachelor’s degree in business or a related field and Project Management Institute (PMI) Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
  • Eight or more years of experience managing one or more highly complex IT projects with demonstrated experience managing project scope, timeline, budget, teams, and vendor relationships; and working with senior management across the organization.
  • Other combinations of skills and experience may be considered.
