JOB TITLE: Director of Housekeeping

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Responsible for the planning, organization, development and direction for the overall operation of the Housekeeping Department in accordance with and federal, state, and local standards and guidelines

JOB FOCUS:

Focus is on, but not limited to the following:

• Assures that Housekeeping staff follows established safety regulations in the use of equipment and supplies at all times
• Develops and maintains written policy and procedures for housekeeping and laundry services and activities with other related units
• Inspects storage rooms, utility and janitorial closet, etc., for upkeep and supply control
• Maintains the care and use of supplies, equipment, etc. and the appearance of Housekeeping areas, and performs regular inspections of resident areas and rooms for sanitation, order, safety and proper performance of assigned duties
• Evaluates safe work practices in job performance reviews
• Directs all Housekeeping staff ensuring that hotel standards are maintained and exceeded
• Coordinates repair needs with Maintenance and Public Areas departments
• Requisitions all Housekeeping supplies and equipment and maintains adequate inventory levels to provide a clean, safe and comfortable environment
• Supervises a staff which involves direct and indirect responsibilities for interviewing, selection, training, motivating, wage and salary administration, performance appraisal, developing policies and developing procedures to ensure achievement of goal

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Good human relation skills, strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively deal with people at different organizational levels both inside and outside the company
• Must possess the ability to seek out new methods and principles and be willing to incorporate them into existing housekeeping practices
• Must be 18 years of age or older
• A two year Associate Arts degree in Housekeeping, Environmental Studies, Microbiology, Hazardous Waste and Chemical, or related area a plus
• Must possess leadership ability and willingness to work harmoniously with and to supervise professional and non -professional personnel
• Must have well developed problem solving skills and ability to develop conceptual alternatives
• Three to five (3-5) years’ experience in a management capacity inside a Casino/Resort environment is a plus
• Must have, as a minimum, five (5) years related housekeeping experience, with a working background in productivity planning in a hotel
