About the Position
The Director, Impact Evaluation & Learning will be responsible for leading our internal Measurement, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) efforts, helping Ceres deepen its impact by strengthening the organization’s ability to assess, communicate and learn from its work. This is a full-time role and will report to the VP, Innovation and Evaluation.

This role's primary responsibilities include: 1) managing and strengthening MEL infrastructure and data systems for monitoring and assessing programmatic progress and impact; 2) producing regular analyses, case studies and reports of programmatic progress and impact; and 3) fostering an internal culture of learning and innovation through building the capacity of program leads and organizing educational opportunities for staff. The ideal candidate will be an astute leader with both technical and relational skills, able to foster collaboration and communicate effectively to achieve project goals.
The Director, Impact Evaluation & Learning will oversee one staff member and partner closely with the Manager of Analytics and the Senior Associate on the Innovation & Evaluation team. The position will also coordinate closely with the Director of Planning on the Innovation & Evaluation team, Ceres’ Information Systems & Development team, and well as have significant engagement with all of Ceres’ program teams.
This full-time role is based in the Boston office, and will report to the Vice President, Innovation & Evaluation within the Innovation and Evaluation Department.
Specific duties include:
  • Program-level theories of change. In collaboration with Director of Planning and program leads, support program teams in evolving their program/initiative level theories of change and related outcomes. As resources allow, partner with program teams and outside consultants to undertake deeper analyses of the impact and the effectiveness of various programmatic theories of change.
  • Support M&E capacity development among program staff to strengthen the quality of program data and the improved collection, management, and use of data for decision-making.
  • Long-term goal development. Partner with the Director of Planning to provide MEL-informed input on the organization’s development of long-term programmatic SMART goals, as part of annual and strategic planning.
  • Oversee the development of educational programming, resources and tools that advance staff learning on key Ceres strategies and partners.
  • Facilitate’ Ceres internal learning & innovation agenda
  • Work closely with Information Systems staff to ensure thoughtful evolution and staff use of the MEL-related components of Ceres’ internal Salesforce data system.
  • Support assessment of emerging programmatic opportunities. Working with the Senior Associate, I&E, provide outcomes and impact-related data and analysis to support VP, Innovation & Evaluation and Director of Planning in developing recommendations to members of the Program Management and Executive teams regarding new programmatic opportunities and asset deployment decisions.
  • Initiative level-analysis & case studies. Asses select initiatives and wins over a multi-year time frame, developing analyses and case studies that support internal learning and are an input to Ceres’ Development team.
  • Strengthen Ceres’ Measurement, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) infrastructure and systems. Partner with the Director of Planning, the Director of Information Systems and relevant program leaders to ensure that Ceres has the necessary systems in place to measure, evaluate, and communicate progress toward our goals, and to facilitate strategic adjustments to Ceres’ programmatic workstreams.
  • Progress assessments. Building from the quarterly analysis, undertake annual assessments of progress against Ceres’ Strategic Plan outcomes.
  • 3rd party evaluations. As needed, advise and support program teams who are working with 3rd party evaluators as part of their foundation grants.
  • Quarterly analysis. Working with the Sr Associate, I&E and in partnership with the Director of Planning, identify, analyze and elevate key outcomes, wins, set-backs and learnings reflected in programmatic quarterly reporting.
  • Assess Programmatic Progress and Impact. Undertake assessments of programmatic progress and impact, for use by leadership, program staff, board members and funders to advance organizational learning and innovation.
  • Have primary oversight in developing key MEL-related policies, procedures, and related tools necessary to define a consistent approach to M&E throughout the organization.
Qualifications
  • Respect and value the contributions of all team members. Set clear expectations for staff and provide regular feedback and recognition.
  • Knowledge or experience with environment, climate change or sustainability issues preferred – understanding of the role of business, the investment community, or NGOs a plus.
  • Attention to detail, intellectual curiosity, passion for learning.
  • Strong meeting facilitation, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Strategic decision-making and problem-solving skills.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant discipline or commensurate with experience.
  • Experience cultivating effective and productive supervisory relationships with direct reports across gender identity, race, ethnicity, and socio-economic backgrounds, a plus.
  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant MEL, research and project management experience.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), other database. applications, teleconference and webinar systems and standard e-mail computer. applications. Salesforce proficiency preferred.

Compensation and Benefits
The hiring salary is $113,250 to $120,000 paired with competitive benefits.
