ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR OF COMMUNICATIONS, MIT Open Learning, to report to the executive director, business and operations and develop and deliver communications strategies to enhance brand recognition, publicize research and other newsworthy content, and amplify impact. Will develop, refine, update, and deliver core branding and communications messages for Open Learning; collaborate with MIT News to forward a media relations strategy, particularly pertaining to publications on digital learning and learning research; manage Open Learning’s online branding presence, including website development and updating, social media pages, and videos; conceive of and produce white papers, MIT News stories, newsletters, etc., to enhance visibility and impact of Open Learning’s research/viewpoints; develop and manage collateral; coordinate outreach at conferences, symposia, and academic events, including identifying and securing speaker slots; coordinate with associate director for marketing to conduct online branding campaigns; identify and communicate developments in digital learning and learning research that can be leveraged to support Open Learning’s work; manage a strategy to enhance understanding and awareness of Open Learning within MIT; support internal communications; develop and employ analytics and other measures to evaluate the impact of communications investments/strategy; and manage one employee and contract freelancers.
Job Requirements
REQUIRED: bachelor’s degree; at least five years of progressive experience in communications, journalism, marketing, corporate relations, public relations, or related field; excellent writing, editorial, verbal communication, and presentation skills; and proven ability to juggle multiple commitments and independently meet competing priorities and deadlines. PREFERRED: advanced degree and experience with brand-building and positioning an organization to achieve impact in a competitive communications environment. Job #22651-10
