The Museum of Modern Art is current accepting applications for Director, Finance and Strategic Planning in the Retail Department. As a key strategic leader within retail, the Director, Finance and Strategic Planning will oversee ongoing financial operations and be a co-lead to drive ongoing strategic financial considerations and long-term growth planning across our omni-channel (owned stores and ecommerce, global licensed stores, wholesale, licensing) business. Success is measured ultimately in net income and manifests in bringing Good Design to more customers globally.
Responsibilities:
- Generates and supports special projects and strategic decisions. Viewing retail within a Museum-wide perspective, creates relevant analyses and financial models in support of various special projects. Works proactively to improve the operating and financial performance of retail, rethinking existing strategies, processes, or structures, when necessary.
- Updates and manages multi-year financial models to assist in retail strategic planning. Collaborates with senior retail management and other Museum leaders on a variety of retail financial matters.
- Collaborates with membership, management information, and others within retail on propelling the museum-wide data analytics platform and warehouse within Google BigQuery.
- Collaborates with the General Manager of Retail and Museum CFO on financial models, variance analysis, scenario planning, and general strategic and financial questions relating to the Museum’s retail growth ambitions. Fosters communication and working relationships across all museum departments to realize synergies with the retail operation.
- Manages $80 million income statement as well as annual capital investment. Prepares annual budget and co-author regular reports on the finances of the retail operation to the Trustee Finance Committee and Board of Trustees.
Requirements:
- Proven experience in a strategic retail finance leadership role.
- Bachelor’s degree in business. MBA or equivalent preferred.
- Strong leadership and organization skills.
- Excellent communication and people skills.
- Solid GAAP and financial reporting skills.
- Excellent knowledge of data analysis and forecasting methods.
- Interest in art and design is ideal, but not required.
- Expert ability to strategize and solve problems.
- Minimum 10 years’ experience in accounting and financial management practices.
Reports to: General Manager, Retail
Salary Range: Minimum of $175,000 to a maximum of $225,000 per annum.
