Job Description
The Director Category Strategy will have a deep understanding of one or more current and/or potential vertical categories for the marketplace. This role will develop and provide information to facilitate strategic decisions on category strategies. This role will be adept in maximizing the value the company receives through category planning, strategic sourcing and supplier engagement. The Director Category Strategy will establish meaningful relationships with suppliers and internal stakeholders to ensure quality, value, revenue, and margin optimization.


Responsibilities:


  • Develop critical thinking skills of category lead; ability to connect supply chain impact to the business to drive peak performance.
  • Deep understanding of economics within the categories.
  • Evaluate multiple spend categories and interface with category leadership and stakeholders at the global, segment level and/or enterprise level.
  • Strong understanding of category/commodity prices including total cost of ownership models.
  • Advanced, independent critical thinking skills to formulate business cost/value opportunities.
  • Build open and trusting relationships with team members.
  • Proficient with the technical grammar and language of the business and category.
  • Understanding of the effective use of supplier preferencing strategy, supplier engagement model and product sourcing.
  • Understanding of potential strategic sourcing initiatives that capture value for the business.
  • Analyze and present findings on various product opportunities to include supply/demand, supplier base, margin opportunity, and optimal GTM strategies within the category. Subject matter expert on one or more category verticals and associated market trends.
  • Identify and communicate on supply chain risk and business continuity plans.
  • Deep connection between category management, business goals, and value proposition.
  • Comfortable and proficient in extrapolating future trends and impacts within one or more categories.
  • Have and build meaningful relationships with the supply base to regularly impact the value proposition.
  • Analyze and present findings on various category opportunities to develop.
  • Consistently present sourcing strategy and value proposition at the executive level.
Qualifications:
  • Relevant industry related certifications.
  • Plumbing
  • HVAC
  • Bachelor's Degree with eight (8) or more years of experience within one or more high impact categories.
  • Tools
  • Experience and proficiency with various web-based software applications including Microsoft Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, etc.
  • Building Materials
  • Industrial Ecommerce experience.
  • MUST HAVE experience with one or more of the following categories:
  • Machinery
  • Electrical Supply
