Scope of Work
Job Title: Diocesan Health Coordinator - Part-Time Exemption Status: Independent Contractor
Department/Location: Diocese of Tucson Department of Catholic Schools
Diocesan Youth Sports Director(s) Responsibilities:
The Diocesan Health Coordinator is an individual who is responsible for the coordination and oversight of the Diocese of Tucson Health Coordinators at each of the school sites. Overall responsibilities include working with individual school health personnel, providing care coordination, advocating for quality student-centered care, and collaborating to design systems that allow individuals and communities to develop both physically and spiritually. This individual is directly responsible to the Superintendent (or designee). As a leader and participant in the Catholic schools’ health and wellness programs, the Health Coordinator will conduct him/herself in a manner consistent with the values and teachings of the Catholic Christian faith and will follow the rules and procedures outlined in the Diocese of Tucson Manual of School Health Policy and Guidelines. The responsibilities of the Diocesan Health Coordinator include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Inform Principals and Department of Catholic Schools of any issues or concerns that arise regarding health and wellness within the Catholic schools.
  • Plan and conduct monthly meetings with the Catholic schools’ Health Coordinator Cohort.
  • Communicate with the Superintendent’s Office consistently using all modes of communication as necessary.
  • Oversee all Catholic school health offices in the implementation and enforcement of all rules, regulations, policies, and procedures of the Diocese, local health departments, and state health department.
  • Conduct any necessary trainings for health coordinators.
  • Health Office Visits: Complete school health office assessments on an annual basis, meeting with the health office staff member to review immunization records, chronic health care plans and medication administration records, and ensure that the medication policy and procedure is being followed, in addition to OSHA requirements, and completion of hearing and vision screenings.
  • Human sexuality education: Ensure that each school is participating in the Diocesan-approved materials (i.e. Circle of Grace, a Christian safe environment curriculum; RCL Benziger Family Life, Chastity) , conducting bi-annual surveys of schools' application of safe environment and human sexuality curriculum, obtaining feedback from staff, students and guardians of students.
  • School Health Meetings: Conduct quarterly school health meetings for health office personnel with the following objectives:
  • Provide immediate response to school health personnel with questions related to the health of students and faculty via phone and email.
  • Provide training for Chastity Plus Anatomy and Physiology presentation.
  • Professional development guest speakers including segment on “Common Playground Injuries.”
  • Review due dates for mandatory immunization reports, hearing, and vision screening reports.
  • At all times demonstrate professional responsibility in enforcing Diocesan policies and regulations.
  • Cooperate with School and Diocesan administration; work effectively with all staff members to promote positive relationships with teachers. Specific attention will be given toward organized presentations of areas of support both within individual school health personnel as well as at diocesan principal meetings.
  • This Scope of Work is not and shall not be a guarantee of continued engagement of the Contractor by the Diocese for any period of time and shall be construed in accordance with the terms of the agreement of engagement between the Contractor and the Diocese.
  • Abide by rules and directives received from the superintendent; perform other, specific duties as assigned.
  • This Scope of Work may be changed at any time by the Superintendent and the Contractor shall be bound by such changes from and after the Contractor's receipt of notice of such changes.
  • Maintain confidentiality of information, display sound judgment in dress and general behavior.
  • Physical/Mental Requirements: Shall have and demonstrate coordination and manual dexterity, normal mental and visual capabilities, and the ability to lift as required in a normal office environment.
  • St. Joseph’s Hospital Partnership: Organize training opportunities for students and staff with the Stroke, Heart Attack and Trauma Injury Prevention coordinators of St. Joseph’s hospital.
Physical/Mental Requirements: Requires coordination and manual dexterity, normal mental and visual ability; ability to lift as required in a normal athletic environment.
Required Activities: Walking, sitting standing, stooping, reaching, talking, handling, hearing, carrying, and keyboarding.
Basic Qualifications
  • The ability to successfully complete a criminal history and background check.
  • Flexibility in assessing needs and strategies and adapt appropriately in a ministerial environment.
  • Professional bearing and clean and neat personal appearance
  • Excellent communications skills including written, verbal, public speaking, and presentation skills.
  • Excellent human relations and interpersonal skills; must be a self-starter and be well-organized; must be a team player.
  • Proficiency in the use of computer technology including word processing and the use of excel and related technology; ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Be able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • A working knowledge of and a strong commitment to the mission of fostering lay leadership in the Catholic Church. If a baptized Catholic, must be a practicing Roman Catholic in full communion with the Church.
Education and Experience
  • A licensed Registered Nurse, preferably Catholic
  • Experience in a Catholic school health office setting highly preferred.
  • Experience in school health office setting preferred.
