The ACLU seeks a full-time position of Digital Campaigner in the Communications and Marketing of the ACLU’s National office in New York, NY.
The ACLU communications department creates, maintains, and expands message narratives to engage our supporters and other target audiences, to help protect and expand civil liberties and civil rights, and illustrate the value and impact of the ACLU’s transformational work. Through our messaging, engagement with newsmakers, our written content, creative branding, and visual identity, we encourage support for the ACLU and help to build a more perfect union.
Reporting to the Associate Director, Affiliate Digital Campaigns, the Digital Campaigner will be a part of a team of campaigners who contribute to the execution of digital campaigns for our national office and our 55 affiliates. They will help optimize our program through leveraging email and text channels and by building out automated flows as part of integrated campaigns using our lifecycle optimizer tool. The Digital Campaigner will work closely with team leads to produce and deploy campaigns that increase the number of ACLU supporters and donors, expand engagement with these audiences, maximize online donations, and support the organization’s policy goals through targeted advocacy efforts.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Escalate and track bugs and feature requests pertaining to the function and improvement of our tools and platforms
- Support the team in identifying opportunities and developing strategies for high-impact digital engagement and advocacy campaigns through email and text channels as well as opportunities to increase efficiency
- Provide support, training, and guidance to vendors and colleagues
- Produce and test online advocacy forms, donation forms, event forms, and other landing pages
- QA and edit emails, texts, and landing pages to ensure quality
- Contribute to reporting across our email programs. Coordinate with colleagues to ensure proper targeting and suppression
- Work cross-departmentally as well as with vendors, consultants and contractors to produce digital campaigns across multiple channels
- Support weekend email and text campaigns as part of a rotating coverage schedule. This includes off-hours work, as needed, for live coverage of high-priority events or rapid response moments
- Execute compelling digital campaigns that drive supporters to take action and donate to the ACLU with a special focus on maximizing online fundraising opportunities, including A/B testing
- Code and test responsive blast and automated flow HTML and CSS emails using email marketing software and texts using our broadcast text and call tool. Set up, QA, and monitor automated lifecycle flows
- Monitor, respond to, and complete production requests as assigned
- Contribute to the maintenance of documentation of team processes and workflows for production
- Help support ACLU affiliates across the country to develop and deploy digital campaigns, and leverage best practices related to email and text outreach. This includes ideating ways to help state affiliates be more self-sufficient and make it easier to consume best practices

EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS
- Familiarity with a range of digital marketing and/or online campaigning tools, tactics and strategies
- Experience interpreting email, text, and web analytics
- Basic constituent relationship management (CRM) system, comfort working with audience segmentation, and email marketing platform experience required
- Demonstrated experience in digital marketing, front-end web development, online campaigning, or related fields
- Proficient using HTML and CSS to code responsive emails for multiple email clients
- Deeply collaborative and comfortable thinking about audiences and programs holistically with both short- and long-term objectives in mind
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Familiarity with creating basic reports, including pivot tables and graphs, in Microsoft Excel or similar
- Project management experience (including project management software) and exceptional organizational skills
- Understanding of trends and best practices for communicating via email and SMS text message as well as for coding for accessibility and the digital privacy landscape
COMPENSATION
The ACLU values equity, transparency, and clarity in pay. Consistent with the ACLU’s compensation philosophy, there is a set salary for this role. The annual salary for this position is $99,612 (Level H), reflective of a position based in New York, NY, where our National offices are headquartered. This salary will be subject to a locality adjustment (according to a specific city and state), if an authorization is granted to work outside of the location listed in this posting.
