Oaty Magazine is a digital vegan magazine which produces content about all things vegan in the New York City.
We are looking for more dedicated writers who are passionate about veganism to join our editorial team.
This role is for a vegan individual based in the NYC - it is fully remote and unpaid.
Job role description:
Write at least one SEO-optimized article per month - 350-1000 words as a guideline - restaurant and café reviews count as an article.
You will be expected to join the bi-monthly editorial meeting - held via Zoom (dates and times to be discussed).
Communicate with the Editor via WhatsApp with article suggestions, which he can then potentially approve and/or discuss further with you. The Editor will occasionally come to you with ideas and suggestions; however, the majority will be expected to come from you therefore being creative and proactive are useful qualities to possess.
You must be able to work to deadlines, possess good communication skills - especially with the Editor - and take the role seriously.
What we are looking for:
Keen to do reviews of your local area, particularly restaurant and café reviews.
Excellent written English is essential. We tend to aim for a compelling, approachable and relatable; not too academic or ‘bloggy’, somewhere in between the two.
Reliability: consistently stick to deadlines and communicate effectively and timely (within 48 hours).
Able to appropriately reference articles with data, be diligent in checking things are true and aren’t just assumptions. It is very important we put out information our readers can trust.
Competency in researching appropriate keywords to be incorporated into titles and the body of the text based upon search intent.
Equally passionate about writing and veganism.
Proactive individual who is comfortable working in a relatively hands-off remote role, reaching out to the Editor with ideas/suggestions and if they have a question or need some help; someone who learns quickly, enjoys a challenge and prefers to not be handheld excessively.
Creative person who enjoys thinking of ideas/angles for articles which are niche and/or not necessarily being covered elsewhere.
Somebody who views feedback as a way to improve their craft.
If this sounds like an excellent fit for you please send over your CV and a short (one-side A4) supporting statement explaining why you think you would be great for this role as well as an example of your writing.
Next steps if accepted for the role:
If accepted there will be a three month probationary period in which either party can decide to terminate before or at the end of three months, this is to make sure it is a good fit for both sides. During this period, you will just be in contact with the Editor and not expected to join the editorial meeting or any groups etc.
If both parties are happy with continuing after the three months, the proposal will be to join for a further six months and be fully part of the team with another discussion after the end of that six month period.
Screening Questions:
1) Are you Vegan?
2) Are you okay with an unpaid position in exchange for experience?
