What We Do
- Maintain a tidy and well-organized workstation environment
- Proactively contribute to the studio quality assurance culture and continuously support process improvements
- Seek opportunities to continually improve job skills and knowledge
- Communicate openly and proactively with the other proofreaders and other departments to share knowledge, especially in matters of client brand and style guidelines
- Fact check, including footnotes
- Support QA colleagues by adopting team mentality; assist other departments as required
- Legal copy, trademarks and logos
- Maintain accurate timesheets, completed to required deadlines
- Proof against brand or style guidelines
- Code check (especially relevant to DM)
- Proof against backup
- Actively seek work assignments from Manager; inform Manager immediately when job assignment has been completed
- Identify and address potential QA problems as early as possible in the production workflow, flagging to Manager and seeking help as appropriate
- Consistency across campaigns or previous versions of material
- Spelling, syntax and grammar
- Size and dimensions against slug—bleed, trim, safety
- Support department colleagues by adopting team mentality; work together to efficiently monitor and manage the workflow
- Proofread and QA all production materials across all production disciplines (Direct Mail; Out of Home; Point of Purchase; Run on Press; Brochure/Collateral; General Print; Email, Interactive and Broadcast) for a dedicated client. (May also be called upon to fill in with agency and direct clients, as well as internal agency materials.) To successfully fulfill this responsibility the Proofreader must perform the following key checks, as a minimum:
- Thorough knowledge and experience of proofreading, with a probable minimum of five years’ experience; agency environment strongly preferred
- Thorough knowledge of spelling, grammar, punctuation, and usage are mandatory
- Sound working knowledge and experience in one or more of the following specialist print disciplines: Direct Mail; Out of Home; Point of Purchase; Run on Press; Brochure/Collateral (Email, Interactive and Broadcast)
- A driven and dynamic individual with the ability to focus on the delivery of results in a rapidly changing environment. Someone who has a passion for quality and service and a strong focus on solutions and results
- All candidates must pass a proofreading test administered by the Manager
- Computer literate with proficiency in Adobe Acrobat and relevant MS office (or equivalent) applications (Word; Outlook)
- A recognized and appropriate academic or professional qualification is preferred, or significant relevant experience
- Sound understanding of major studio operations functions, including retouching, electronic pre-media and traditional services, as well as main agency functions.
