Database Platform Reliability Engineer

This is a hybrid role, based in G-Research’s office in Dallas.

The role

The Database Platform Engineering team is expanding and is looking for an SRE focused Database Engineer with demonstrable experience in PostgreSQL or Cassandra.

You will help us deliver automation, feature enhancements and best practice security on our existing hybrid cloud platforms, as well as explore new technologies and integration with other Open Source products within our ecosystem.

You will work across a number of the large-scale database platforms we maintain, including Cassandra, PostgreSQL, SQL Server and Aerospike, in a mix of Linux and Containerised environments.

As well as existing platforms, there is also opportunity to explore new options, such as CockRoachDB and deployment onto Kubernetes, as our systems evolve and scale in line with the company’s ambitious and exciting plans.

Within the Database Platform Engineering team and the wider business, there is a significant focus on configuration management, container orchestration, Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and CI/CD. Key responsibilities of the role include:

• Delivering engineering solutions, ensuring they are scalable, stable, performant, and operationally efficient
• Providing metrics, documentation, and self-service infrastructure to help our customers work at pace and get the most out of the platforms
• Using advanced troubleshooting skills to diagnose and fix problems
• Participating in the out of hours rota, providing support and maintenance for our critical systems
• Configuring and maintaining geo-located estates utilizing technologies such as Clustering, Availability Groups and Patroni
• Exploring new tooling and automation to enhance both the customer and operational user experience

Who are we looking for?

The ideal candidate will have the following skills and experience:

• Previous experience with database administration or engineering on PostgreSQL or Cassandra
• Experience with monitoring, metrics and alert tools, such as Prometheus and Grafana
• Experience working with CI\CD pipelines and orchestration platforms, such as Jenkins
• The ability to code or script; experience with Ansible and Python is beneficial
• Experience with cloud technologies, such as Terraform, TFE, AWS or OpenStack is desirable
• Experience with container infrastructure, Kubernetes and other open source database platforms is highly desirable

Salary: $245,000.00 - $300,000.00 per year
