Duties : Perform, design, and analysis of electrical and power systems used in the generation, transmission, and storage of electricity for industrial, and related applications. Perform complex electrical power system analysis studies including load flow, fault level, harmonics, motor starting, dynamics, and protection coordination using specialist software packages and independent preparation of complex technical reports. This includes power/electrical system modelling and performance assessment for design confirmation and protection studies to improve system performance and reliability. Independently undertake assignments covering the analysis and protection coordination of existing and proposed power networks applied to a variety of renewable, offshore, industrial and utility projects for clients based in the US and overseas. Support the design and protection and control team. Perform power system analysis studies for new systems design or upgrades. Perform project oversight role with focus on direct client interaction for suitable small studies projects. Participate in and/or lead the effort for estimating/ scheduling system study work on relevant engineering bids/proposals. Mentor new, less experienced junior staff with respect to running power system studies and check their work. Perform engineering tasks that require familiarity with the broader field of engineering.

Candidate Specification

Requirements : Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Electronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field plus two (2) years of experience as an Engineer or other occupation/position/job title involving engineering experience in the electrical and power systems industry.

Experience may be gained concurrently and must include one (1) year in each of the following:

• Transmission system protection principles and practices including special protection systems, general power system protection concepts, power utilization equipment and application considerations including the various types of switchgear, protective relays, breakers, transformers, and generators.
• Software packages including PSCAD, ETAP, PowerFactory DIgSILENT, and SKM/PTW
• Performing power system studies on utility transmission or distribution systems, including stability (transient and dynamic), long/short range planning studies, short circuit, protective relay settings, load flow and contingency analysis, and harmonic analysis
