Data Strategy Associate Jobs

BrightHive is seeking a full-time Data Strategy Associate to support our Strategic Initiatives Lab in increasing economic opportunities for individuals by exploring new areas for cross-sector data collaborations and building social sector capacity for outcomes-based decision-making. The BrightHive Strategic Initiatives Lab takes the approach of an R&D lab to develop coalitions and strategies on exploring new areas for cross-sector data collaboration and tackling industry-wide problems related to data sharing, such as addressing gaps in data standards, responsible use of data, and executive education. We collaborate with various stakeholders across philanthropy, government, academia, nonprofits, and civil society to drive the systematic change necessary for data sharing and data trusts to improve outcomes for individuals. The Strategic Initiatives Lab provides resources, advises, and lead projects that demonstrate the value of data trusts and explore new use cases.

You have experience with coalition building, developing collaborations, and contributing to collective action campaigns. You are especially energized by helping individuals and communities who are historically or institutionally disadvantaged, looking for ways to level the playing field and increasing equity of opportunity.

Key Responsibilities

Assist in the development and implementation of BrightHive strategic initiatives structures & procedures:

• Work with the BrightHive Strategic Initiatives team, across the Data Trust and Product teams to ensure the timely and successful completion of tasks and deliverables related to the development and deployment of the data trust;
• Support the Head of Strategic Initiatives and Data Strategy Lead in developing standards, templates, and procedures for leading strategic data initiatives;

Manage & oversee BrightHive strategic initiatives, budgets, & timelines:

• Represent BrightHive, or support staff, in engagement and communications with stakeholders, partners, funders, and the broader community.
• Monitor the broader data trust environment and identify opportunities to further support existing data trust goals and stakeholders;
• Develop systems and processes for managing and analyzing BrightHive data sharing initiatives, eagerly engage and collaborate with data trust stakeholders, partners, funders, and the broader community, including scheduled check-ins and progress updates;

Identify ways to expand current strategic initiatives:

• Assist in business development through engagement and completion of RFPs, grant proposals, and other application-based efforts to secure funding for new or expanding existing data collaboration efforts.;
• Collaborate with BrightHive marketing and communications staff to develop and disseminate appropriate materials and communications related to initiatives, including progress reports and materials for organizations interested in participating in or supporting the data trust ecosystem.
• Use your contextual and substantive knowledge, understanding of individual data trust stakeholders, and your existing professional network to support the Data Strategy Lead in growing and expanding the coalitions. This includes onboarding members to the coalition, defining key roles, tracking milestones, and keeping in sync with the other internal BrightHive teams;

Here’s what we’re looking for:

• Experience working on research and evaluation or developing data strategies and literacy of organizations;
• Passionate about using your skills, expertise, and experience to improve equity and opportunities for individuals and communities, especially those that are historically underserved.
• Proven project management experience in a strong interest in developing and managing cross-sector collaborations or collective action campaigns;
• Demonstrated ability to lead and manage multiple projects concurrently, managing to tight deadlines, and communicating progress and results to multiple audiences;
• Demonstrated leadership, presentation, communication, and relationship-building skills;
• Bachelor’s or advanced degree or comparable experience in a relevant discipline with an emphasis on substantive or contextual knowledge;
