We are seeking a highly skilled Costing Accountant Assistant Controller with a strong background in cost accounting and familiarity with these principles to join our team.

Job Overview

The Costing Accountant / Controller will report to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and be responsible for developing and maintaining the company's cost accounting systems, ensuring the accuracy of financial data, and overseeing the production of financial reports. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in cost accounting and lean manufacturing principles.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide guidance and support to staff members in the accounting department.
• Analyze and report on product costs, variances, and profitability.
• Ensure compliance with SOX and other regulatory requirements.
• Collaborate with other departments to ensure that financial data is accurate and complete.
• Participate in special projects and initiatives as required.
• Develop and maintain internal controls and procedures to ensure the integrity of financial data.
• Assist in the preparation of financial statements and reports, including monthly and quarterly financial statements, budgets, and forecasts.
• Develop and maintain the company's cost accounting system, ensuring that it is accurate and up to date.

Qualifications

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• A certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Management Accountant (CMA) is a plus.
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• Familiarity with SOX and other regulatory requirements.
• Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles is preferred.
• Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other financial analysis tools
• 5+ years of experience in cost accounting, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
• Experience with financial statement preparation and analysis
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Strong knowledge of cost accounting principles and practices, including standard cost systems, variance analysis, and product profitability analysis.

• Prior experience with ERP Systems including Alere or AX desired
• Standard cost systems determine the cost of materials, labor, and overhead.
• Activity-based costing allocates costs based on activities that drive production.
• Prior experience working within a publicly traded company is highly desired
• ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) systems to track costs and manage inventory.
• Account reconciliations, including Inventory in Transit, Interco due to/from, Bank Accounts, Petty Cash
• Business intelligence (BI) tools for data analysis and reporting
• Spreadsheet software, such as Microsoft Excel, for financial modeling and analysis
