Job Description
Reports to: Associate Provost for Academic Affairs
Job status: Exempt
Position Summary: The Coordinator of Academic Technology provides services and resources to faculty, staff, and students that are using digital platforms, tools, and environments for educational purposes. The position identifies and designs innovative opportunities for the use of academic technology at HCU and directs the implementation of and personally ensures excellent support for University-adopted platforms, including and especially the LMS. The position supports inventories and documentation for adopted instructional systems, tools, techniques, and policies. The Coordinator works closely with staff in ITS to facilitate optimal service experiences with instructional technologies throughout campus. The Coordinator also works collaboratively with full-time and adjunct faculty of varying backgrounds and levels of proficiency in academic technology for training and to design and develop with them pedagogically sound and technically excellent instructional media, tools, and other course elements for incorporation into residential, hybrid, and fully online courses. This position reports to the Associate Provost for Academic Affairs.
Job Responsibilities
The Coordinator of Academic Technology is responsible for the development of policies, planning, management, training, and delivery of digital learning technologies. Responsibilities include advising and collaborating with faculty and academic units to develop, train, and implement effective technologically enhanced pedagogy for classroom and online learning.
  • Collaborate regularly with the Pampell Online Division and college leadership teams in assessing needs, creating action plans, and providing training and service
  • Create periodic reports on relevant indicators of quality and effectiveness in faculty and student use of academic technology
  • Manage and ensure the reliable operation of the University’s learning management system (LMS) and other contracted academic technology platforms and resources
  • Attend/participate annually in the Blackboard (or equivalent) conference (as budget allows)
  • Develop and present faculty and staff onboarding orientation and skill-development workshops for the University’s learning management system, ITS-supported applications, and classroom technology in coordination with C-LITE
  • Make well-researched recommendations to the Provost for policies, process improvements, and changes in protocols or vendors to enhance the academic technology services provided to faculty, staff, and students
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Employ various means to effectively solicit student and faculty feedback on the University’s academic technology resources and services
  • Work collaboratively with and serve as principal liaison to academic technology partners (e.g., Blackboard, Turnitin, Respondus, Anthology)
  • Work closely with the CIO and ITS to ensure the successful, ongoing integration of HCU’s academic technology platforms and resources with other institution-wide systems
  • Recruit, train, and supervise a team of student workers with the full range of skills and experience needed to carry out the responsibilities of the Department of Academic Technology
  • Manage the Academic Technology budget and ensure timely payment of all academic technology contracts
  • Take all necessary steps to ensure data integrity, security, and confidentiality

  • Bachelor’s degree required, master’s degree preferred
