Duties and responsibilities:


  • Promote positive working relationships with faculty.
  • Monitor student-athletes’ NCAA academic eligibility using university student systems and established internal degree-tracking forms.
  • Regularly and promptly share detailed information regarding the ongoing academic progress of assigned student-athletes.
  • With a thorough understanding of NCAA legislation and continuing eligibility serve as the point of contact for monitoring and projecting student-athlete academic outcomes with assigned teams.
  • Serve as the coordinator to assigned teams
  • Monitor their academic progress
  • Serve as the academic representative to assigned teams for on-campus recruiting operations.
  • Communicate with assigned coaching staff through scheduled academic meetings
  • Prepare and distribute weekly reports to all coaches relative to academic performance, encompassing overall academic performance of team, evaluation of performance of at-risk student-athletes, and weekly student hall and tutoring hours.
  • Supervise a Graduate Assistant to help manage tutoring program
  • While also connecting student-athletes to professional development resources. Team assignments will include assisting with Football, and another Olympic Sports.
  • Support department and campus-wide student success efforts through participation in a variety of department activities and committee work
  • Liaison with the Office of Student Success to coordinate tutors, and provide information as requested
  • Administer and oversee study hall and tutorial programs for student-athletes
  • Utilize the Office of Student Success to develop strategies to assist at-risk student-athletes.


Skills


  • Proven organizational skills, attention to detail, and openness to new approaches and new ideas.
  • Ability to work with competing priorities, multiple constituencies, and advocate for students with political acumen.
  • Ability to analyze and solve problems and use independent judgment to manage and impart confidential information.
  • Thorough knowledge of NCAA academic legislation, particularly with rules of student-athlete continuing-eligibility and progress-toward-degree, transfer legislation, and Academic Progress Rates (APR)
  • Excellent oral, written and presentation skills and proactive, responsive interpersonal skills.
  • Established ability to communicate effectively with the student population, university personnel (e.g. faculty, college deans, administrators, athletic coaches and staff), as well as representatives from the community.
  • Ability to analyze course prerequisites, certification, and/or curriculum/graduation requirements
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.


Some travel required.


  • Experience with programs and technology such as canvas, ARMS, banner, etc.
  • Commitment to the Honor System and compliance with all NCAA legislation and principles.


Requirements


Education: Bachelor's Degree required.


Experience: Two years experience working in academic advising, teaching, counseling, student affairs, or a related field is required.


Knowledge/Skills/Abilities


  • Excellent written communication, analytical, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.
  • Ability to work with sensitive information and maintain confidentiality.
  • Demonstrated and successful experience providing academic advising and/or academic support in education, with evidence of effectively serving the student population.
  • Working knowledge of NCAA academic eligibility and recruiting rules and regulations.
  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
