Under general direction, is responsible for the planning and conducting of media and community relations programs designed to promote and market the City initiatives through various communications media. Working conditions are primarily in an office environment. Exercises functional supervision over assigned staff.
This position is an "unclassified" position and has no disciplinary appeal rights to the Municipal Civil Service Commission. This position is likewise subject to at-will employment status and can be terminated at any time for any reason.

Work Schedule
8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Monday - Friday; Rotating Hybrid Schedule
- Works with colleagues in different specialty areas of the Economic Development Department to support the promotion of programs, services and projects.
- Prepares a budget for the Marketing Division, including monitoring of expenditures; coordinates purchasing process for Division.
- Identifies target audiences to develop appropriate marketing and/or sales efforts.
- Conceptualizes and implements graphic design strategies to promote department programs and initiatives.
- Designs programs to influence increased attention to the assigned market area.
- Manages leads and motivates assigned staff.
- Designs advertising programs.
- Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required.
- Builds relationships with the external community; represents and serves as liaison to other public information offices.
- Manages budget and resources, analyzing results, marketing and/or sales strategies.
- Researches, analyzes, and monitors promotional strategies and marketing trends.
- Supervises the maintenance of various resource files, mailing lists, and statistical data on the department.
- Prepares, writes and edits various documents such as press releases and speaking points.
- Leads social media strategies for the department.
- Organizes and executes plans for press conferences and other media or special events such as announcements, project launches, etc.
- Reviews, evaluates and designs long range departmental marketing and/or sales efforts.
- Develops, administers, and coordinates marketing, public relations and advertising strategies and develops supporting multi-media initiatives.
- Manages in conjunction with the Information Technology Department staff, resources in communication and business information, covering publication, print, video and website.
- Works with other City departments and local stakeholder groups in activities related to the City of San Antonio and assigned department.
- Identification and development of current/emerging trends to drive sales and/or marketing goals and disparities within the department.
- Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university.
- Five (5) years of experience in the areas of marketing, management, association management, hotel management or tourism.
- Experience with Adobe Creative Cloud or Suite (such as InDesign, Photoshop, Acrobat, etc.).
- Bilingual (English and Spanish).
- Unless otherwise stated, applicants are permitted to substitute two years of related full-time experience for one year of higher education or one year of related higher education for two years of experience in order to meet the minimum requirements of the job. One year of full-time experience is defined as 30 or more hours worked per week for 12 months. One year of higher education is defined as 30 credit hours completed at an accredited college or university.

- Skill in utilizing a personal computer and associated software programs.
- Knowledge of local attractions.
- Knowledge of supervisory and managerial procedures, techniques and methods.
- Knowledge of administrative aspects of sales and/or marketing.
- Ability to exercise initiative, judgment and diplomacy.
- Ability to negotiate and administer contractual agreements.
- Knowledge of advertising terminology, procedures, practices and methods.
- Ability to make public speaking appearances.
- Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with employees, management and the general public.
