We’re looking for an experienced Commercial Product Manager for Associations in Higher Education Courseware to join a highly collaborative team. The Commercial Product Manager is accountable for overseeing a portfolio of products (such as e-Texts and print books, lab manuals, and our homework platform, MyLab) by capitalizing on market opportunities, meeting customer needs, and delivering improved learner outcomes which ultimately drives value for our end users and our Association partners, and revenue for Pearson. The key Associations market this position is focused on is the skilled trades (carpentry, electrical, plumbing, etc...) The role reports to the Director of Product Management for the Information Technology and Skilled Trades Portfolio team (IT&P).


What you’ll do:


Be the voice of the learner by working with Association partners and Pearson colleagues in North America (and around the globe) to support the identification, assessment, and prioritization of market opportunities & customer pain points in skilled trades education.


Contribute to the creation of new products and features and retire existing products as needed along the Product life cycle, with a hyper-focus on working with our Association partners to develop a strategy and product plan for the future of the portfolio in the skilled trades product space.


Gather and use research and customer feedback leading to deep market insight of both your products and competitor products, along with digital experience and analytics to design product strategy and identify which customers to target/key problems to solve.


Acquire the authorial talent for the given portfolio. Manage authors directly with the aim of bringing their best work to market


Collaborate closely on projects with colleagues from many internal stakeholder teams, including other Commercial Product Managers, Content Production, Sales, Marketing, UX, Efficacy & Learning Research, as well as the Application and Platform Product Management teams to create products that improve outcomes for learners while driving business value for Pearson and Pearson’s Association partners.


Drive continuous improvement once products have been launched to optimize customer experience, adapt to specific geography/market segment requirements, respond to competitor actions, and improve learner, and commercial outcomes.


Support achievement of the financial targets for your product(s) through knowledge and creation of the product P&Ls.


Key Requirements And Attributes


Degree (or equivalent preferred)


Product management experience, including managing digital products.


2-3 years of experience as a college sales representative preferred.


Ability to travel as needed (up to 10%)


Good understanding of K-12 and higher education higher education in particular and learning from a consumer viewpoint: ability to translate the winning product management strategies into actionable plans and products that drive value for customers and learners.


Great insight into the needs of different markets beyond education, including the learning needs of adult learners working in Business and Industry, and the opportunities within them, cand the capability to build execution around product strategies that serve multiple markets.


Accountability and Ownership – You take ownership and accountability for targets and drive achievement through effective leadership, determination, and motivation to succeed. You solve problems by using a data-informed decision-making mindset.


Communication and Collaboration –You communicate points of view in a compelling way and with expertise across a wide range of projects as well as across internal & external clients. You have great collaboration skills and can work effectively across teams regardless of reporting lines.


Time Management & Organization – You possess excellent organizational and time management skills, coupled with the proven ability to set priorities, manage deadlines as well as manage resources effectively and make data-driven decisions.


Global Perspective – You have experience operating in a global environment and demonstrate international cultural agility.


Compensation at Pearson is influenced by a wide array of factors including but not limited to skill set, level of experience, and specific location. As required by the Colorado, California, Washington State, and New York City laws, the pay range for this position is as follows:


Minimum full-time salary range is between $90,000 - $ 110,000 per year.
