Cognizant Apprenticeship - IT Support Technician

Position Overview

As an IT Support Technician Apprentice, you will review, troubleshoot, and participate in the process to ensure timely implementation of corrective actions and log and triage incidents for some of the world’s leading companies. You will be responsible for incident life cycle following ITIL/BIC framework and develop induction documents in consultation with relevant stakeholders for the project.

We provide mentoring where you will connect with peers and build your network. Throughout your first year at Cognizant, we will closely monitor your progress and offer coaching, training, and support to help you achieve your long-term career goals at Cognizant.

Who you are:

Cognizant is looking for talented individuals to join our CIS team as an IT Support Technician Apprentice who will perform SOP activities with business impact understanding of customer environment and contribute to improve standard operating procedures (SOPs) while adhering to customer communication etiquette. An apprenticeship is about developing and growing into a technology role. Therefore, we are seeking candidates who have the drive and eagerness to learn; ability to work independently and collaborate as part of team; and can demonstrate strong verbal skills, attention to details, and troubleshooting skills. Our goal as a team is to build a uniquely fun and growth-oriented culture of thinkers.

Qualifications

  • Serve as break/fix technician for a wide variety of user technologies in the related practices and respond to client support requests by contacting them to find the nature of the problem.
  • Strong interest in learning the latest exploits, tactics, techniques and procedures, vulnerability remediation and security trends in Cloud implementations.
  • Apply technical skills to recommend, implement, support, improve, and operate information protection technologies with limited supervision.
  • Open and willing to work in a support role at client location.
  • Open to working a 24/7 rotating shift, meaning shift start and end times will vary and will often commence and/or end outside of normal business hours.
  • Installing, maintaining, and advising on software, hardware, and computer peripherals (i.e., upgrading operating systems and computer software)
  • CompTIA and/or Google IT industry certification(s)
  • Provide basic training in computer operation and management.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex network security incidents, including packet capture and analysis, log review, and critical thinking.
  • Minimum of an AA/AAS degree or military equivalent
  • Open to relocating within the US for future assignments as required by business needs
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to work in a team.
  • Self-motivated individuals with strong analytical, troubleshooting and problem-solving skills with the passion and appetite to learn newer technologies.

Apprenticeship: Program Overview

Cognizant Apprenticeship Program is officially registered and recognized by the Department of Labor (DOL). Every graduate of our Registered Apprenticeship program receives a nationally recognized credential from the DOL.

The IT Support Technician apprenticeship program is a one-year paid learning experience; where you will be required to successfully complete specific learning hours and on-the-job training that has been outlined to ensure you are successful in your new role plus pass technical assessments along the way.

Once you graduate and receive your certificate from our apprenticeship program, you will be eligible for continued employment with Cognizant and reclassification from non-exempt to exempt based on education, work experience, technical assessment, performance evaluation, and client engagement.

Location(s)

New hires will be deployed to Cognizant office(s) in Westbury-NY, New York-NY, Philadelphia-PA, O’ Fallon-MO, Georgetown-KY, Princeton-IN, Plano-TX, Austin-TX, Englewood-CO, Atlanta-GA and Huntsville-AL where you will work alongside other experienced Cognizant associates delivering technology solutions. Applicants must be willing to relocate to one of these major geographic areas. While we will attempt to honor candidate location preferences, business need and position availability will determine final location assignment.

Start Date(s)

New hires will largely start in one cohort: September 2023. While we will attempt to honor candidate summer start date preferences, business need and position availability will determine final start date assignment. Exact start dates will be communicated with enough time for you to plan effectively.

Salary and Other Compensation:

The hourly salary for this position is USD $19.00 per hour depending on experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate.
This position is also eligible for Cognizant’s discretionary annual incentive program, based on performance and subject to the terms of Cognizant’s applicable plans.

Progressive Wage Increase: If after the completion of the first 6 months of your apprenticeship, you have successfully attained new skills and competencies, - provided your performance is satisfactory and are working on a client project – your wage will increase to USD $25.00 per hour which when annualized is equivalent to a base salary of USD $52,000.00.
