Clinical Coordinator- Perioperative Services 100%

The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics Department of Nursing is seeking a Clinical Coordinator to perform specific tasks within Perioperative Services.

Position Specific Summary: Provide leadership in clinical care coordination/specialized nursing care through care planning with preference cards, charge reconciliation, documentation audits, assistance with clinical coordination in central scheduling, verifying clinical resource needs, using clinical nursing to in improve nursing and health care through the management of quality or design of informatics.

Provide Leadership and Oversight for Specialized Services or Populations:

• Participate in patient management to facilitate preference card accuracy.
• Participate in reconciliation of surgery charging.
• Collaborate with nursing, medical staff, and other health professionals in planning, care for specific patient populations by providing surgery scheduling oversight.

Specialized Services For Nursing Care

• Apply expertise in specialized field of nursing to lead efforts to improve nursing quality and other services that support the practice of nursing. Areas of focus are care planning, surgical schedule oversight, charge reconciliation, and documentation audits.

Provide Education

• Provide specialized health education to health profession students and residents applicable to patients in field of expertise.
• Communicate detailed, complex medical information to a variety of audiences.

Compliance with Internal Policies and External Regulations for Safe and Effective Care Delivery and Health Profession Education:

• Follow and apply policies and meet documentation requirements.
• Recommend policies and/or procedures enhancements that address new and improved care processes.
• Participate in Quality Improvement (QI) initiatives.
• Report variances and work to address them.

Human Resource Management

• May hire, develop, and manage the performance of staff and assure compliance with UI policies and procedures.
• Provide direction, assignments, evaluative feedback, coaching and counseling to staff, students and residents to assure outcomes are achieved.

Percent of Time: 100%
Schedule: Hours 0800 - 1700, Monday - Friday. No weekends, no holidays, no call. Position is eligible for remote work arrangements.

Education Or Equivalency Required

• A Bachelor’s degree in Nursing is required.

Required Qualifications

• A minimum of 2 years recent OR nursing experience
• Demonstration of commitment to principles of Service Excellence
• Collaborates and develops effective interpersonal relationships with nursing staff, medical staff, interdisciplinary teams, and other hospital departments
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Current license to practice nursing in Iowa
• Excellent organization skills; detail oriented

Desired Qualifications

• Expertise in Orthopedic surgical procedures
• Knowledge of OR scheduling processes
• Expertise in Epic Optime
