Laboratory Technician Ii - Uicc Pediatric Associates 100%%

The University of Iowa Community Clinics (UICC) is seeking a patient and family centered 100% Laboratory Technician II to work at our UICC Pediatric Associates Clinics - Holiday Rd Clinic & North Dodge Clinic. This position will support our growing clinic with a strong laboratory focus (providing phlebotomy support as well as point of care testing). This position offers flexibility 8 and/or 10 hour shifts!
Our clinics specialize in the care of infants, children, and adolescents and provide a range of services from well-child care, to basic childhood immunizations and illnesses, to managing complex medical conditions and chronic disorders. University of Iowa Stead Family Children's Hospital team works hand-in-hand with all pediatric specialists at UI Stead Family Children's Hospital and uses one electronic medical record for each patient which ensures constant and timely communication between the patient and the entire medical team. Our Medical Assistants develop relationships and get to know our patients and monitor patient care history and deliver personalized, compassionate care every time to each patient.

Summary
Under general supervision, the Laboratory Technician II performs phlebotomy and a variety of difficult venipuncture procedures, difficult technical procedures, and other associated responsibilities in the clinical laboratory, while maintaining laboratory area and equipment.
Position Responsibilities
Performs phlebotomy on our patients to include but not limited to: infants, children, and/or adolescents. Performs moderate-complex laboratory testing (urinalysis, blood tests, etc.) on clinical biological specimens such as blood and body fluids. Uses the Laboratory Information System to accession specimens. Performs, or may direct performance of, data entry, labeling and processing of laboratory specimens. Prepares specimens for transport to maintain specimen viability. Records results of laboratory testing and reports results in the Laboratory Information System and to clinicians in compliance with regulatory requirements and standard operating procedures. Operates, calibrates and maintains laboratory equipment and instruments. Performs records and reviews daily quality control as required for assigned testing/instrumentation. Cleans and maintains a medium-sized laboratory area and equipment therein, makes inventory reports and performs simple maintenance on laboratory equipment. Maintains supplies and equipment in medium sized laboratory area and orders additional supplies. Distributes incoming freight, laboratory supplies, environmental samples or biological specimens, and packs outgoing sample or specimen containers. Seeks assistance from the Laboratory Technical Consultant when complex equipment or technical issues arise. Informs the Laboratory Technical Consultant of significant laboratory variances. Responds to, or may direct response to, telephone inquiries regarding laboratory specimens. Investigates and resolves laboratory questions with minimum guidance. Driver's License and ability to meet UI Fleet Safety Standards.

Percent of Time: 100% (40 hours per week)
Schedule: Monday - Thursday, flexible work hours completed between 8:00 AM - 7:00 PM, Friday 8:00AM - 5:00 PM, rotating weekends with Saturday hours from 8:00 AM - 12:00 PM and Sunday hours from 12:00 PM - 4:00 PM, no on-call time, Shifts could include 8 and/or 10 hour shifts.

Salary: $37,065.60 - $55,140.80 / Hourly: $17.82 - $26.51 (based on years of experience)
Education Required

• Two years of related laboratory experience including one year as a Laboratory Technician I or equivalent level experience, OR
• Certified Laboratory Assistant (CLA) certification, OR
• Driver's License and ability to meet UI Fleet Safety Standards.
• Any combination of related post high school education and experience which totals two years.

Highly Desired Qualifications

• Previous experience with EPIC
• Previous experience in performing laboratory testing (urinalysis, blood tests, etc.) on clinical biological specimens such as blood and body fluids, which may include but not limited to: Piccolo, CMP's, CBS's, etc.
